Meet PIVE

We were lucky to catch up with PIVE recently and have shared our conversation below.

PIVE, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
For the past 20 plus years I have always loved writing songs & hip hop. I was fascinated with how artists would rhyme words, but at the same time tell intricate stories on there life. When I wanted to purse this passion of mine I had so many people tell me I would never make it. I was bullied as a child just because I enjoyed a certain genre of music & I wanted to be a part of it. I think what many don’t realize is this has never been about becoming a famous rapper. I just love the game. So I continue to make music despite all the haters in the background. Because in the end it’s about my passion & what I love to do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Ryan Mullane, I go by the stage name PIVE. I was born & raised in the pacific northwest. Ever since my mom bought me a keyboard at 10 years old, and being introduced to hip hop around the same time. I knew at that moment no matter what I became in life. Hip hop was forever going to be a part of who I was. There is just something so powerful seeing people react to the words you wrote & music you created. Fast forward to 2023, I have since dropped two full length albums, multiple singles & about to drop my 3rd album later this year. I have always said music lives within us & I want my music to live within all of you. That’s my ultimate goal. It’s not about how big I can get, but about how much of an impact did my music make on a persons life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
People think money is the ultimate power in this life. But I am here to tell you that knowledge is the real source of power in this life. For me I studied every artist I could & dissected how they wrote there music or the way they told there stories on a song. Whatever passion you have in life that is were your ultimate true happiness lies. It’s tough when your young/first starting out. But if you stay the course, you will get better. You just have to remind yourself from time to time that this is a journey not the end of it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I was always a good writer & putting a song together. But if it wasn’t for my producer Chef Sherm, I am not sure I would have come as far along as I have. His input & skills helped me become the artist I am today. People often forget that the producer is the most important person behind the scenes helping create the artists music you know & love. Sherm was that missing piece of the puzzle for my music.
