Meet Pixie Mag

We were lucky to catch up with Pixie Mag recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Pixie, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I’ve always looked at being the only one in the room that looks like me as like a super power. My style is authentic & I look at it as a distinct selling point. I’ve always been a pariah, growing up maybe not in the most positive light but as I eventually grew into myself I learned it pays off to have a uniqueness to whatever you present to consumers and audiences. If I’m doing something different, it’s all eyes on me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is In’Shallah Moss aka, Pixie Mag, an artist born and raised in Augusta, Georgia. My musical journey kicked off about two years ago through the therapeutic lens of karaoke. It became my outlet of expression when I would get in my feelings and as I eventually started filming and sharing these sessions via social media, the positive audience reaction fueled my passion.

I just released my first song back in November, called “Dopamine Freestyle,” out now on my YouTube, and currently, I’m immersed in the creation of my EP “Princess P”. I’m really aiming to showcase my musical versatility with this debut. I want to give the alternative folks something, the trappers something, and the city girlies something to have on repeat. I’m also an integral part of the band “Are you still listening.” We are currently, diligently preparing for our debut performance on this first Friday, February 2nd at Humanitree House. This venue holds sentimental value for me, marking the place where I headlined my first show.

Augusta, my hometown has been in nurturing ground for my artistic endeavors. The support and relationships I’ve built here have paved the way for incredible opportunities like headlining at Humanitree house. Beyond music, I’m the creative force behind my business, “The Pixie Mart”. As I gear up for the upcoming market season starting in March, I’ll be showcasing my custom wearable creations and canvas art at the Augusta Saturday market on the river. The Pixie Mart is a vibrant mix of apparel and jewelry, boasting fun and funky designs that transcend age.

My journey is a fusion of artistry, entrepreneurship, and a deep connection to my roots here in Augusta Georgia. I’m excited to share my creations and continue growing as an artist here in this supportive community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For those starting their journey, here’s some advice & skills I’ve built that work for me:

1. Stay True to You:

Authenticity is magnetic. Showcase your true self, as it not only sets you apart but also fosters a genuine connection with your audience.

2. Connect with Others:

Network with fellow artists, venues, and the community. Meaningful connections can lead to opportunities and provide a solid support system.

3. Explore Different Avenues:

Dive into various aspects of your creativity. Being versatile opens up new possibilities and lets you connect with different audiences.

Remember, the journey is as crucial as the destination. Stay passionate, build connections, and keep pushing your creative boundaries.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Without a doubt, my biggest supporter and invaluable collaborator in overcoming challenges and building these essential skills is my producer and bandmate, Djibril Djigal, also known as Jiggy the creative. He goes beyond being a producer. He’s my accountability partner, keeping us both on track and productive. In the Augusta music and entertainment scene, I haven’t come across anyone who works as tirelessly as him. His unwavering dedication is not only inspiring but has played a pivotal role in shaping my journey.
