Meet PJ

We were lucky to catch up with PJ recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi PJ, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
There are a plethora of things I do for self-care. I’ll tell you guys my top 3. Last year, my close friend introduced me to yoga. Since I’ve started, my breathing is better, my mind has become clearer and my body is more flexible. If you guys become interested in yoga, definitely tap in with my good friend Destiny. Her Instagram is: @wellnesswithdess. I also play sports. I have my own my basketball team and co-own a flag football team. Since I was little, playing sports has always been a safe haven for me. All my problems tend to fade away when I’m either on the court or the field. Listening to music is another form of self-care for me. I am strongly passionate about music. From discovering the origins of songs to collecting vinyls. I love every aspect of music.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What’s going on guys! It’s just PJ here to enlighten you all about my brand, me. I have quite a few “hats”, so to say. I’m an entrepreneur, DJ, photographer, videographer, actor & model. The special thing about all of the things I do is that these are all my passions. I think Mark Twain said it best when he stated “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” That’s what it feels like for me, whenever I’m working as a creative. There are times where I forget that I am even getting paid for this. I encourage you all to pursue your passion and get obtain the same feeling as I. There are a lot of new things I have store. I’ve got a couple shoots in the works. I have a few playlists ready to release. I also have some videos in the planning stage. That’s all I can tell you guys. I don’t like to give out too much in advance. You’re just gonna have to tap in with me to find out more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three important qualities that positively impacted my journey is my faith, persistence and patience. I believe that in order for anything to work out in your life, you have to obtain a confident mindset. Things will not always turn out exactly how you wanted it to, but it may just turn out how it’s supposed to be. There are literally thousands of people in Atlanta that aspire to do the same things I do. Constantly pushing, despite my obstacles, is what helps me stand apart from the rest. You may not notice, but people are watching. They see how much work you’re putting in, watching you network at all these events and staying active on social media. Most important of all, you have to stay patient. Your time will come. It could either be in a few months a few years. You can’t rush greatness. I know it can be discouraging watching a bunch of individuals get their break who maybe haven’t been in the game that long. Remember this, everybody’s journey is different. Focus on your path.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Unfortunately, I have been dealing with imposter syndrome. For those who don’t know, imposter syndrome is that uncomfortable feeling when you think you’re inadequate and incompetent. You’ll be in a room full of people and feel like everybody is qualified except for you. Sometimes I’ll go through periods where I would doubt my abilities, as a creative, and it would hinder my path to leveling up in my businesses. Luckily, I have a lot of loved ones who remind me how dope and talented I am. If you guys are reading this, words cannot describe how much I appreciate you guys. I owe you all the world, and I promise to give you just that!
