We recently connected with PJ Riley and have shared our conversation below.
Hi PJ , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic derives from a variety of sources; my personal values, my upbringing, influential people in my life, and all my life experiences. Since I was a child, my family always instilled the importance of God, hard work and dedication. I also like to observe successful people, and learn from their achievements, which can be inspirational as well as motivating when it comes to developing a strong work ethic. My past experiences as well as my desire to achieve my goals play a vital role in shaping my work ethic. All in all there is a combination of various factors that contribute to my work ethic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an Audio Engineer for the Film and Television Industry. I work on film sets as a Production Sound Mixer preserving the performance of each scene, as well as a Post Sound Editor bringing each scene to life, with a cascade of sound effects and music. The most exciting and special part of my job would be, being apart of the creative process in making a movie. Seeing a film go from development to screen is a very rewarding feeling. It’s like piecing together a puzzle, and watching it come to life. But being in the Audio Department is probably the most rewarding part. Audio is the most important aspect to a Film or your favorite T.V. show. If the sound is horrible from the time of production, it can affect the final outcome of the project. So having a strong work ethic in my craft, helps me achieve the performance preservation of a film. My brand is everything to me, it’s what allows me to attain the next project that I work on. At the end of the day, my name is what goes in the end credits of a film, and if the audio is bad then it is a reflection on my brand. For 2024 I plan on expanding my skills set in Post Audio Production. I will be working as a Production Sound Mixer, Sound Editor, as well as Music Composer for Film and Television. This new year will bring some great things!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, the most impactful qualities developed were; Resilience: Being able to bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward despite challenges. This to me is the most crucial quality one must master. Being resilient helps me stay motivated, allows me to maintain a positive mindset, and helps me stay focused allowing me to adapt to endless changes and circumstances. Continuous Learning: Being open to learning new things and expanding my knowledge is essential for my personal growth and evolution. Embracing an evolution mindset, as well as seeking out new opportunities, allow me to improve myself which can have a pro-founding impact on my journey. Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and managing my emotions, as well as being empathetic and understanding other’s emotions, has shown to be a valuable skill. Emotional intelligence helps me navigate through different types of relationships, communicate effectively, and make solid decisions.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for people to collaborate with. Being in the entertainment industry, it is a collaborative industry. Does not matter if you are making music or making a movie, it takes multiple people in multiple departments in-order to make a project come to life. The people I am looking to collaborate with are filmmakers, editors, musicians and recording artist.
