Meet Platinum Pianist

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Platinum Pianist a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Platinum , thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?

I first learned to take risks after reading The Alchemist, a book my mom gave me when I was young. While I didn’t grasp everything then, its core message stuck with me: the journey matters more than the destination. It taught me that setbacks shape who we become and that taking risks in pursuit of our dreams is not just necessary—it’s what gives life meaning.

Growing up where professional opportunities in piano were limited, I realized that staying put was the bigger risk. When I was offered a scholarship to study in the U.S., I took the leap. I moved, learned, and started over—first on the East Coast, then Hawaii, and eventually completed my Doctorate in Piano Performance on the West Coast. As a foreign student, I couldn’t rely on loans, so I pursued scholarships and assistantships, pushing myself to practice harder and stay competitive. After years in classical performance, I chose to carve my own path—transitioning into weddings and private events, where I could connect more personally with audiences and shape my own creative direction.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a wedding and private event pianist based in Southern California, performing under The Platinum Pianist. I specialize in creating unforgettable atmospheres for my clients’ most meaningful moments, with a process that’s smooth, personal, and stress-free. Just last month, I relocated to Southern California from the north with my husband and daughter, and I’m excited to bring my music to new audiences here.

Originally from Slovenia, I knew I wanted to play the piano from the age of six—and I’ve followed that passion ever since. I hold a Doctorate in Piano Performance, and my training allows me to sight-read almost anything. Rather than offering a limited playlist of standard songs, I collaborate closely with each client to craft a customized musical experience that reflects their unique style, memories, and vision.

2024 was an amazing year, I received two awards, the first place winner and Judges Distinction Award of the American Protégé with a debut at Carnegie Hall and the Leigh Weimers Emerging Artists Award. This year started with a nomination for California Wedding Day finalist and City & Beach Lifestyle top 10 event specialist. I am excited for this year’s weddings in our new environment and look forward to a performance at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and the performance at Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Continuation to the section: Please tell our readers about what you do, what you feel is most exciting or special about it, as well as anything else you’d like folks to know about your brand/art/etc. If relevant, please also tell our readers about anything new (events, product/service launches, expansion, etc)

What excites me most about my work is the freedom to play virtually any style of music. Weddings are incredibly diverse and personal, and I love being able to transform a rock anthem or EDM track into a romantic ballad—or turn a slow song into an upbeat dance number. That flexibility allows me to reflect each couple’s personality and love story in a truly unique way.

Every wedding is special. Brides often choose a processional that speaks to their journey and love language, while grooms tend to lean into upbeat, energetic choices that set the tone for celebration. Together, they usually pick a joyful, “happily-ever-after” recessional—often punctuated by a kiss and dip at the aisle as they’re introduced as Mr. and Mrs. for the first time. It’s moments like those that make what I do so meaningful.

I put great care into every detail—selecting and arranging music, practicing, sharing samples, and ensuring everything is ready for a flawless performance. When I play during cocktail hour, my focus shifts to reading the room and creating an atmosphere that’s engaging, elegant, and enjoyable for guests of all ages.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Embracing what sets you apart.
Don’t try to fit into someone else’s mold. The sooner you lean into what makes you different, the stronger your voice becomes—whether that’s your musical style, your story, or your creative process. And don’t be afraid to share that with others. Let people see you through your work and your content.

2. Dedication and discipline.
Being a musician isn’t just about talent—it’s about consistency. Yes, you have to practice, learn, and be technically prepared. But equally important is refining your stage presence and learning how to emotionally connect with your audience. That’s where the magic happens.

3. Don’t quit on a bad day.
When I was a kid, I told my parents I wanted to quit piano. They said I could—but only on a good day. That advice has stayed with me through every challenge. Everyone has hard days, but progress comes from pushing through, not walking away.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who values a personalized, high-end musical experience for their wedding or private event—someone who wants more than just background music. I typically perform at upscale venues and work with couples looking for a seamless, stress-free process from start to finish. They trust me to handle every musical detail and to create an atmosphere that feels elegant, meaningful, and completely their own.

I also collaborate closely with wedding planners and venues who appreciate the value of a premium, luxury service—people who understand that music sets the tone and helps elevate the entire event experience.
