We recently connected with Porsha Kimble and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Porsha, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my Mother! She’s always super positive and puts things into perspective. She reminds me of what the world has to offer.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve always had a deep passion for baking, and after spending two decades as a home baker, I realized I wanted to contribute to the baking community in a bigger way. About three and a half years ago, I launched PK Elixirs, which are flavor extracts created to enhance baked goods but versatile enough for smoothies, coffee, and even savory dishes. Knowing that these elixirs could elevate any baker’s process has been one of my proudest achievements.
Beyond product development, I’ve also dedicated time to traveling across the U.S. and internationally, teaching bakers how to improve their decorating techniques, refine their pricing strategies, and build confidence in their craft. Now, I’m taking a step further by sharing my business insights, helping others achieve success in their home-based ventures or within the baking industry. For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to support others on their journey and see them thrive.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that have been incredibly impactful in my journey are resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continual learning.
1. Resilience: Building a business, especially one that serves other businesses, comes with its share of setbacks and challenges. Resilience has been essential—whether it was learning from product feedback, facing manufacturing changes, or handling the unpredictable nature of running a business. My advice for those starting out is to embrace challenges as growth opportunities. Stay focused on your vision, even when things get tough, and remind yourself why you started. Resilience will carry you through moments when success feels distant.
2. Adaptability: The ability to pivot and adjust to new circumstances is crucial, especially in industries that evolve quickly. For instance, changing manufacturers and expanding the PK Elixirs flavor line required a lot of flexibility and openness to change. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say: stay curious and be willing to explore new methods or directions. The market, and even your own goals, may shift. Being adaptable will allow you to keep moving forward without feeling stuck.
3. Commitment to Continual Learning: From developing PK Elixirs to teaching and mentoring others, there’s always something new to learn. I had to expand my knowledge in everything from product development to business coaching. For those at the start, I’d encourage a mindset of lifelong learning. Invest in yourself through books, classes, or networking with industry experts. This mindset will not only improve your skills but also fuel your growth and keep you motivated.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m absolutely open to partnerships and collaborations, especially with those who share a commitment to supporting and uplifting the baking and business communities. I’m particularly interested in connecting with:
1. Bakers and Food Creatives: Those who are passionate about elevating flavors and experimenting with unique ingredients. If you have a creative approach and a love for high-quality products, we could explore collaborations that bring PK Elixirs into new recipes or events.
2. Business Coaches and Industry Experts: Individuals with a focus on helping others grow their businesses, especially in the areas of entrepreneurship, marketing, and community building. I’m interested in collaborations that support fellow business owners, whether through joint workshops, online sessions, or even content creation.
3. Health and Wellness Influencers: Since PK Elixirs are versatile enough for beverages, smoothies, and more, working with wellness professionals who focus on clean, flavorful ingredients could open new avenues for introducing my products to a broader audience.
