Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Prakriti. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Prakriti , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I always knew I wanted to do something with art. I loved painting as a child, my art teacher in elementary school was an amazing artist! He inspired me a lot throughout my school life. I was a big fan of the show called “Art attack”, I remember making sculptures, vases, stationary decorations…etc. I learned so much from the show, you can make art out of literally anything and find inspiration everywhere.
I didn’t have any interest in fashion till late high school. It was the peak tumblr grunge era, we all were inspired by indie music, dark aesthetics and social media. I started experimenting with my personal style and slowly got sucked into the technical aspects of fashion. I also worked as a student in high fashion clothing brand for couple of years. I gained a lot of experience there and enjoyed working too.
I saw fashion as a hobby though, I thought the chance of having a career in fashion or even anything related to that was very slim.
I used to be very pessimistic back then, I felt like I should live for others “like I owe them my life” rather than enjoying my own happiness and doing things that I want to do.
My friends helped me a lot during that period. They changed my mindset of “life”, saw my true call and passion before I could see it, They were always motivating, gave me a lot inspiration about everything basically and still do.
But starting a new journey is the most difficult and important part. I slowly started planning everything in my head, I knew I wanted to show the world all these beautiful art, stories, essence of the garments, specially of the new, young, talented, contemporary brands. So one day I made a pinterest account, named it “Infashionated” and started posting contents I liked.
Thinking about it now, I guess my heart had already chosen fashion since I was little. I remember watching “Fashion tv” when I was 7 years old. I even practiced walking like the models on the runway and made my own looks with stuff lying around in the living room. Even in high school I would wake up early just to watch Fashion tv before leaving for school.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
When I started Infashionated, my sole aim was to share captivating brands and collections with my audience. After gaining traction on Pinterest, I expanded to Instagram and TikTok. But I started getting too technical from the beginning, I tried planning and brainstorming about what people will be interested in, what’ll amaze them, what they haven’t seen yet….After many trails and errors I realized that going with my own instincts and sharing my interests works the best.
I do a lot of research on brands: their designs, stories, collections, emotional connections…etc. I want people to feel joy and connection like I do when they see these mesmerising pieces of art.
As an Asian living in Europe, I try to niche down on Asian and European brands but there are too many talents in the world. I hope the viewers can see the uniqueness of these designers, brands and countries like I do.
As for the future, I want to make long form contents to share the stories of the brands, collections and their journey. And maybe one day I can have my own brand and share my journey and stories through fashion.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Just start! I still struggle to do this, it’s the laziness and fear of failing that stops me but we will learn from these failures. It won’t be perfect from the beginning and that’s okay. We’ll learn new things, improve from those mistakes, even be embarrassed but we won’t have any regrets later on.
Look back at your journey, mistakes and achievements. We don’t really look back and think about the past. It’s important to take a break and think about what went well, what didn’t, what you’ve learned….and write it all down. It gives you clarity so you improve in the future.
Show your uniqueness. You might think “Oh who’ll even like my stuff, people have seen everything”. We people tend to look for some emotional connection, community with similar or passion. There are billions of people in the world, there will definitely be people who’ll admire your work as long as you put a piece of yourself in it.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with creative individuals (fashion related or not), share each others works and opinions. I find it important to get inspirations from others and vice versa.
I would also love to go to the shows, events of the brands and share their collections/ stories it with my audience.
