We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pratibha Bhattarai. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pratibha below.

Pratibha, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Growing up in a rather conservative joint family, we had everything provided for, house maids who were available 24 hours to cater to our needs. However, we were taught to be humble and kind to everyone who helped around the house with everything. I grew up in a very disciplined household, where everything had to be done in time, waking up around the same time, breakfast around the same time and dinner with the whole family together. From my great grandfather who had founded more than 25 schools, to my grandfather and my father, everyone had worked really hard to be a respected, renowned and powerful person.
Their work ethics, kindness and humbleness in life was installed upon us ever since we were kids. Our father believed in empowering women because they are the soul of any household. Being there for each other, community, society and neighbors in the time of need. These values can only be instilled by the people who raise you or people you surround yourself with, teaching your to be humble and kind.
We also grew up knowing that everything in life is temporary, money, power and even some relationships, so do not get blinded by someone’s power, rather watch them show humility when they have all of the three things in life.
I have also lived in many countries, met people from different social and economic backgrounds. This has taught me that people come from different walks of their lives and every individual has their own stories to share. Some of them share a victim mentality others share as their path of being who they have become and embrace their journey. These travels and every single person has taught me that I may be going through a problem right now which I may feel is the end of the world, however, a year or two years from now, they will all make sense.
I believe, every event in your life, every single thing you do everyday will teach you something new. It might not make sense to you at that point but it always makes sense in the future, therefore keep moving forward, learn what every heart break or pain has taught you. Always remember pain is inevitable, however suffering is all on you and how gracefully you move forward in life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Letting go of everything: Since I lived away from my home at the age of 15 and had lost my dearest and loving mother. I have learned to let go of things gracefully. Although many events and people have taught me the graceful part, this is one thing we should learn. If you learn the art of letting go, you will learn to be peaceful all the time. Letting go also teaches you to love without attachment and be in the moment. One of the best things I have come across in my life is that you might have become a prom queen or king in high school. It might have shaped you to want to be popular and work hard in college at work, however, that happened when you were 18 years old and if you bring that up at your workplace when you are 28 years old, it may seem like you are holding on to that one thing which happened a decade ago. Same thing goes with anything that gives you pain, it may have hurt you but it does not define you. If you fail in launching a product or if one plan fails then you can let it be and grow something else that aligns with your business and brand.
Adapt anywhere Embrace your life experience: Like the popular saying, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. Anywhere you go adapt to the lifestyle there and when you move from that place take the experience, joy, happiness, lesson, suffering and everything else embrace the journey and move. If you learn to learn to adapt you can grow your brand and business as per the target market and cater to your audience.
Compassion and Kindness The most underrated quality of our generation is compassion and kindness. We do not know the path people have gone through, therefore, instead of being judgemental if we just show kindness and compassion to everyone that crosses our paths, this world would be a much better place. It will also allow you to approach any kind of person in your business.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

The market is changing rapidly. Creating my own wellness brand is one challenge, because there are so many that serve the same purpose, however, the brand I am creating is for the people that serve purpose and not just for profit and wealth. When we first started our start-up Asterisk Hubs in late 2018, we were only 2 people and we started it from our couch in our living room and over the years we have grown and although our mission has been the same, many ideas have become outdated and old within the course of 6 months. Health and wellness industry functions the same way. It is confusing to everyone who is looking to get fit mentally and physically and keep the pace up. Due to the high demand of one’s life, the lifestyle they are trying to fit in and everything in between, people actually get confused with what they want and what wellness means to them, for various people wellness means different things. However, it always comes down to losing weight or growing muscles, without even understanding the type of the body people have, which brings us nothing but unhealthy habits. It is the fact that we want to achieve a goal that requires 6 months and we push ourselves to get it done in 3 months. We all have to understand it does not work that way, simply put, it requires a lady 9 months to give birth to a child, we cannot ask 9 ladies for one month each to give birth to a baby. We all have to have a clear understanding of the process and be patient and work on achieving our goal.

The rapid change in the industry and clients who get confused is one particular challenge. It is because healthcare professionals or wellness instructors are talking about the same thing but everyone has a different answer. In ayurveda it is said that everybody’s body is made differently, therefore the nutrients, medicine and the exercise cannot be the same. It has to be different for each and every individual.
