Meet Precious Ama H.

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Precious Ama H.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Precious Ama below.

Precious Ama, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

My self-discipline was forged in survival—watching people around me deny their truth, suppress their spirit, or betray themselves in exchange for comfort or approval. I knew early on that if I followed the path others laid out for me, I would lose myself.

I’ve had to discipline myself not just in action, but in belief—belief that I could build something better, even when I was surrounded by systems—and sometimes people—that tried to convince me otherwise. I’ve lived through betrayals, gaslighting, misdiagnosis, and being underestimated—especially as a Deaf, Black, gender-fluid woman. Those moments taught me what not to become. That contrast became my compass.

For me, discipline isn’t just about structure or grind—it’s a spiritual commitment to myself, my purpose, and the collective future I’m creating. I serve the God of truth and authenticity. Sometimes that’s messy—but even messy is real in a world where perfection is staged, love is transactional, and safety is mistaken for obedience—even when obedience demands you betray your truth.

I have the power to expand, and I can’t expand in restricted spaces. Every time I’ve been framed as “too much,” I’ve chosen to become more. I’ve learned that when someone sees me that way, it’s not a reflection of my worth—it’s a reflection of their inability to sustain my power or hold themselves to a higher standard. Those who refuse to grow cannot comprehend someone who chooses to.

I’ve seen people reject their own potential and abandon their greatness before it had the chance to grow. That’s a price I refuse to pay. My discipline lives in that refusal. I refuse to shrink. I reject every projection of who others think I should be. I know exactly who I am.

Discipline has meant being honest—even when it hurts—and letting go of people and places that couldn’t hold the fullness of who I am. Grieving potential has been one of the deepest losses I’ve ever faced. I’m often left imagining what could have been if more people had chosen to embrace their greatness instead of suppress it.

However, that grief has only made me more:
More disciplined.
More authentic.
More resilient.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Created from the ashes of betrayal, built through grief, and grounded in truth—HUG Collective is a Deaf-led platform that creates space for healing, creativity, and connection. This is more than an app—it’s a movement.

Particularly, I love the acronym Harmonious Unison Global creates—HUG. I first came up with the name Harmonious Unison years ago, inspired by the concept that most people are created with two ears yet hear one sound, two eyes yet see one picture. In autumn of 2024, I added “Global” because this is truly meant for people everywhere. Even better, the HUG acronym is also an important reminder to do exactly that—hug. This reinforces my values of genuine care, compassion, and connection.

What makes HUG special is how it was born—from betrayal, grief, and systemic injustice—and how it continues to rise.

My pain, isolation, and vision are becoming a platform where others feel seen, supported, and powerful in their own skin. We’re currently preparing for beta testing of our minimum viable product (MVP), which connects creatives and small businesses through one central feature that will soon expand into a full ecosystem. It’s been both a joy and a challenge to build intentionally.

We’re also laying the foundation for our nonprofit Healing Hub for all, which offers mental, emotional, and spiritual support to overworked, under-supported people—parents, educators, frontline workers, artists, and beyond. I believe healing is a basic human right, and holistic well-being should be a priority—not a privilege.

If you’re a creative or small business owner, we’d love to invite you into the beta testing —this is only the beginning. Stay tuned for the public release of the HUG Collective app.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities have deeply shaped my journey:

• Empathy – The ability to meet people where they are without judgment, while still holding space for growth.

• Leadership – The ability to see greatness in others and call it forward – Guiding people into their highest self with love rooted in truth.

• Strategic resilience – The capacity to adapt with purpose, stay grounded through uncertainty, and turn detours into alignment.

Empathy has helped me meet people exactly where they are. Empathy gives me the ability to lead with understanding, build trust across differences, and hold space for both vulnerability and growth. I’ve learned to extend compassion without enabling cycles that dishonor our truth.

The second quality is my ability to see greatness in others and challenge them to rise. I hold people accountable with love—the kind rooted in truth, not comfort. Love that refuses to enable shrinking and dares people to expand into who they were always meant to be. That kind of love isn’t passive—it’s active, intentional, and transformational.

Lastly, strategic resilience has been key. My path hasn’t been linear, and I’ve often had to navigate systems that weren’t designed for me. I used to resist waiting, but now I understand that certain delays hold wisdom. Some detours exist to prepare you for breakthroughs you didn’t see coming. Resilience, for me, is not just about pushing through—it’s about pausing with purpose and moving with clarity.

For anyone just starting their journey:

• Lead with compassion, but protect your energy.

• Recognize your own greatness, and surround. yourself with people who see it too.

• Growth takes time —but stay aligned, stay rooted, and stay willing to expand.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely. I’m always open to collaborating with people whose values align. I’m looking for folks who are living their truth, purpose-driven, ready to co-create something transformational, and committed. I’m especially seeking collaborators in the following areas:
• Creatives (dancers, filmmakers, models, designers, stylists, musicians, visual artists, etc.)
• Small businesses and local brands who want to co-create, host events, or uplift community storytelling
• Investors and funders aligned with creative equity, wellness, accessibility, and long-term systems change
• Developers and technologists passionate about expanding the HUG Collective platform
• Nonprofit leaders and visionaries who want to co-build the Healing Hub initiative
• Marketers and brand strategists who want to amplify impact through authentic storytelling, digital campaigns, and community-centered engagement.

If you feel called to collaborate or contribute to this vision, I’d love to connect. Reach out via:
