We were lucky to catch up with Priscilla Benewaah recently and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my upbringing. I grew up in Ghana West Africa and was raised by a hardworking single mother. She instilled in me hard work and served as a role model while working as a nurse and having a small side buisiness to support the family.
My education also contributed to my work ethic through discipline and impacting great values in me. One thing I took from this was to do everything diligently and with excellence even when no one else is looking.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Priscilla Afua Benewaah, I have a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and a dual certified as a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP). I have over a decade long experience in the nursing field with experience ranging from mental health, substance use disorder treatment, Home Health, long term care and primary care.
My Journey in the nursing field started off as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) which led me in identifying my passion for the individuals I cared for. Through this career transition, I embarked on advancing my education in the field of nursing. Prior to becoming LPN, I always wanted to be a Pharmacist, but I developed love for the nursing field and I haven’t regretted taking this career path.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are Hard work, dedication and persistency.
My advice to people going through this journey is to strive for excellence in everything they do. Be always the hard-working person in the room and it finally pays off. Staying focused, dedicated to any tasks you are working on and being persistent and never giving up.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Hello tomorrow! by Dr. Cindy Trimm This was a transformational guide guide of my vision.
This guide helped shaped my thinking and planning pattern to no place any limit on my potentials.
The book helped me not to underestimate myself and what i put my mind into. This crafted a brighter tomorrow for me.
