We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Priya Rednam-waldo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Priya below.
Priya, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
As a licensed therapist and coach to high-achieving women navigating the unique journey from pregnancy to postpartum, I often share my story of resilience to help clients ground to their own resilience. It lives within each of us, it’s only a matter of tapping into it.
For me, tapping into the long line of strong and determined women in my family has been vital to finding my resilience. My grandmother, mother and sister have each created incredible good in the world in the face of adversity in many different forms. Carrying their strength through my own journey of as a professional and mother has been an incredible gift that I’m able to pay forward to my clients and my children.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a licensed therapist from Johns Hopkins University and today I serve as a CEO, coach and advocate for high-achieving, career driven women navigating the highs and lows of motherhood, from pregnancy to postpartum.
My clients range from c-suite execs, leaders in engineering, medicine, tech and law to top entrepreneurs. These incredible women, much like me in early parenthood, are “in control” and the “leaders” in their professional world but now need a leader to navigate this unmatched life transition.
As a former U.S. Army Captain from West Point and founder of a thriving maternal mental health practice in Michigan, I’m proud to be that leader and guide through their journey for personal health, wellness and joy alongside professional ambition and achievement.
I share my deep understanding of the complexities surrounding non-traditional family structures, drawing from my own experiences as the daughter of Indian immigrants, the wife of an Irishman and mother of four children, through birth and adoption.
I welcome connection and community with mothers seeking unmatched niche support during this transformative life experience. I also passionately advocate for mothers through thought leadership, keynote speaking and brand partnerships.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity, Purpose & Authenticity have been the most impactful qualities in my journey thus far. Both personally and professionally-as a coach and mother-these have been vital to my joy and success.
I seek knowledge and understanding of myself and others through reading, learning and time for self-reflection. With a strong foundation of my core values, I enjoy nurturing real relationships based on love and support. And taking my knowledge, community and deep sense of purpose to support mothers and mothers-to-be as well as my own family, I feel fulfilled, grounded and able to tap into joy every day in spite of life’s inevitable stressors.
We often can feel pressure to adopt someone else’s persona, values or goals or assume there is just one right way to navigate our professional or personal lives, but really infinite right ways exist. I would encourage others early in their journey to take the time and effort to find their authentic values, sense of purpose and village of supportive relationships. It will make an incredible difference in both successful outcomes and their health and happiness in all the steps along the way.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
As a coach to clients that are navigating both early motherhood and professional ambitions, I’m often discussing how to face feeling overwhelmed with compassion and curiosity rather than criticism. And I certainly try to always practice this mindset for myself.
It’s helpful to first remember that we all feel overwhelmed at times, it is not a failure, it is a natural response to stress. When I feel overwhelmed, I get curious about the events leading up to it. Leaning into the facts, rather than just feelings, helps to ground me and allows me to remember that I’m empowered to make the necessary shifts to rebalance. I then compassionately use my favorite wellness tools: mindful breathing, exercise, journaling and sleep.
With a curious and compassionate mindset, everyone can find balance (based on ‘having what they want’ rather than ‘having it all’) and can find their right tools that consistently support their wellness. It may take some time and trial and error to gain that wisdom, but it’s definitely worth it.
