Meet Priyadharshini Sritharan

We were lucky to catch up with Priyadharshini Sritharan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Priyadharshini , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My purpose in making dolls comes from my love for art and storytelling. I’ve always believed that every culture and emotion can be beautifully expressed through creative work. When I started making dolls, I realized they could do more than just decorate — they could tell stories, reflect traditions, and make people feel connected. My purpose is to share that connection and keep those stories alive through each doll I create.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Priyadharshini Sritharan, and I’m the creator behind Expressive Dollz USA, where I bring stories, emotions, and traditions to life through handmade dolls. What started as a small creative outlet has grown into a meaningful journey of storytelling through art. My dolls are often inspired by ancient history, epics, and real-world events and characters each one crafted with care to reflect culture, emotion, and individuality.

What makes my work truly special is its uniqueness – the detailed work and thoughtful expressions that people instantly connect with. Every doll has its own story and personality, and I love that each piece feels alive in its own way.

Right now, I’m focused on creating more storytelling sets and character collections that combine tradition with creativity. My goal is for Expressive Dollz USA to continue inspiring people to appreciate handmade art and to see the beauty in stories that connect us all.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the qualities that shaped my journey most are a commitment to quality, learning to be diplomatic, and embracing continuous growth. Every doll I create is a labor of detail and care — the quality is what makes each piece special. Along the way, I learned to navigate differing perspectives, especially with people who may see my work as just a product rather than art, while staying true to my vision. And with every single creation, I discover something new, which keeps my passion alive.

For anyone starting out, my advice is simple: explore, experiment, and make your work uniquely yours. Draw inspiration from real-world stories, create something original, and never compromise with plagiarism. It’s your originality, dedication, and curiosity that will set your work apart and bring it to life.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always excited about opportunities to collaborate, both on a larger scale and more intimate projects. On a bigger scale, I’d love to join hands with brands like Barbie to create dolls for kids that bring stories and culture to life, reaching audiences around the world. Collaborating with doll manufacturers to design custom, unique products is also something I’m very interested in — combining creativity with production to bring new ideas to life.

On a smaller scale, I enjoy partnering with small business owners, women-led businesses, and startups, especially for special projects like return gifts or unique collections. If anyone is interested in collaborating, I’m open to exploring ideas and can be reached through my website, expressivedollz.com, or my Instagram, @expressivedollzusa. I love working with people who share a passion for creativity, originality, and storytelling.
