We were lucky to catch up with Priyanka Gupta recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Priyanka , thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?
alot of metta – aka loving kindness meditations
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started practicing yoga in 1994 as a way to navigate the stresses of a teenager. It was only after i went for my first 10 day vipassana retreat there was a subtle shift in how I started to see things and view the world… I didnt want to return to the corporate world of training and so my father encouraged me to do my yoga teacher training just as a way to deepen my knowledge. I spent a month immersed in an ashram in South India – and then decided to head to the sister ashrams near the Himalayas to deepen my knowledge and practice. when I returned to New Delhi, I started to teach friends and before i knew it I was teaching expats, diplomats and wealthy business people full time.
I did this for a decade in India and then met my (now husband) at an ashram and started dating long distance. When we finally decided to tie the knot, I came to Canada with my feral cat and continued to offer yoga and meditations via skype. When the pandemic hit – I started offering yoga, meditations and pranayam for free on my youtube channel @yogawithpriyanka.
I have just completed my practicum with MMTCP (2025 cohort mindful meditation teacher certification program under jack kornfield and tara brach – and havae submitting my recordings for evaluation.
I am also currently doing a 500 hour kundalini yoga certification as I want to explore this form of yoga.
I am also currently working as an assistant manager at a yoga studio in Toronto so that i can learn the other side of yoga so to speak.
I am passionate about inculcating practices like gratitude and mindfulness as I think this is the best way for people to live in harmony, with themselves and those around.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
my training background helped me tremendously and gave me confidence that I may never have had – as I had a serious accident when i was 19 and lost my left eye – Having one multiple traditional vipassana silent retreats/meditations and being part of the yoga/ meditation world has allowed me to be kinder and more empathetic towards people especially towards people who are challenging or difficult to be around.
for folks who are early in thier journey = the best way one can develop or improve thier skills would be through a steady consistent practice of meditation/mindfulness/breathwork and yoga.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am looking to partner or collaborate with folks who want to facilitate a spiritual journey. I am currently partnered with Tracy who you interviewed a few months ago, to lead a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification program that will begin in the fall.
