We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Queen Blake a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Queen , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I always had confidence because my Mom gave me such a royal name. It’s Queen, but over the years I lost it. I had to do some soul searching and I landed myself on a tv show that changed my hair and confidence forever.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an actress and now podcaster. I have a podcast called Queen’s tea. I love that with my platform I can tease myself from past journeys and mistakes I’ve made over time. With acting I’ve done music videos, movies as background and most recently a hair show. It haven’t aired yet but it’s on season 2. The thing that’s special about what I do is I get to share my journey with the world. I’m like a baby learning how to walk in front of my supporters. My show is also on season 2 and you cant find it on apple podcast spotify and i heart radio.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Mines was following my dreams while keeping a day job. One of the hardest things you’ll ever have to do. You need to be flexible so you really can’t work because Hollywood is on its on time. Sometimes you don’t know your call time to be on set until 10pm. So I definitely been homeless before. My advice would be don’t quit your day job but get a flexible one.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Terrence J has a book I used to read all the time about his Mother lessons making his life rich. That book kept me going when I wanted to quit. It beard his soul and talked about how he made it to Hollywood. His Mom told him to not give up and if they say no they can’t say it twice. A very wise woman I would say.
