Meet Quentin Hill

We recently connected with Quentin Hill and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Quentin, so happy to have you on the platform with us today and excited to chat about your lessons and insights. Our ability to make good decisions can massively impact our lives, careers and relationships and so it would be very helpful to hear about how you built your decision-making skills.

We feel it is easiest to make decisions when the customer is front of mind at all times. When we purchased iliac three years ago, we spent everyday, all day on the phone with customers in an attempt to understand why they loved iliac and why the brand had faltered.

Everyone said exactly the same thing: I love the quality, I hate the wait time and lack of service.

We took this information, purchased a factory in San Diego, California, and got to work on creating a production system that best serves our customers’ wants and needs.

Our customer created the identity of iliac: A reborn startup that is building the first ever fully customizable high fashion experience.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Iliac prides itself on being “handcrafted in the pursuit of perfection.” This applies to not just our beautiful product, but the company itself.

The word “Monopoly” often has a negative connotation (for many good reasons). I will be very forward in saying if iliac is to be successful, we will monopolize high fashion. We will without a doubt offer higher quality, more customization, better customer service, and faster turn times by 300-400%.

I feel that the bar is extremely low, and as country clubs look to best serve members, corporations look for unique gifts, and collegiate programs look to differentiate themselves – iliac fills that void in a way not seen before.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

To me, the three following skills have been the most important by orders of magnitude in the rebirth of iliac.

1. People Skills and Transparency

People inherently want to buy from people they like. People will work hard for people they like. Whether I’m recruiting our next employee, speaking to a team member, and working with a client, I always remain grateful that person has blocked the time to work on or work with iliac.

As for transparency, I don’t care how perfect you think you or your company are. We are humans and humans make mistakes. We make a point to own it, fix it, and communicate in a fashion that is often refreshing to customers.

2. Willingness To Learn

Nobody is born knowing how to build the perfect production system. Nobody is born knowing how to finance inventory. Nobody is born knowing how to build the best customer experience.

This is incredibly freeing. Why not us?

3. Pure Drive & Willpower

We firmly believe “there is always a way.” If we have to pull an all-nighter in the factory to turn an order on time, you better believe we will do it.

Just like any sport, at some point it comes down to who wants it most.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Twofold.

1. Our customer base.

We have been very fortunate for the company to continue to grow at a 70-100% clip year over year for the last three years. We truly believe that if we do the little things right and keep the customer front of mind, the growth will come.

2. Our production system.

Google is a wonderful tool. It is used 8.5 billion times per day. It is no longer useful to us.

We have spent tireless nights, weeks, and now years in the factory coding and building what I believe will be THE state of the art custom production system. Nike spends years planning for a single SKU. We custom create SKU’s daily with customers, unique to them, and craft and ship them in two weeks.

If Amazon has a 2 day turn time promise, we have a 100% custom 2 week turn time promise.
