Meet Quentin Irey

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quentin Irey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Quentin, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I started in the corporate world and immediately struggled to find a sense of purpose. I clocked in and out with little motivation and quickly became exhausted and alienated. It wasn’t until I started pursuing creativity in my work that I found some meaning. But then the realities of business started closing in on me again. The creativity of web design, video production, photography and graphic design were great but I still had a business to run and administrative tasks started to ware me down. I needed to find a purpose for this part of my life too. That’s when I discovered my ideal client. When I work with non-profits, individuals, and small businesses, the admin doesn’t seem so bad. It’s for the sake of a greater cause. That renewed my work with purpose.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My company is a full fledged digital design studio. There’s not much in that realm that we can’t do. Our specialty is websites. We want to bring cutting edge web design to nonprofits, small businesses and individuals who are normally priced out by the larger firms. Establishing a web presence is intimidating. There are a lot of services out there that take your money and leave the actual work to you. You can consider our model to be the exact inverse. We charge as little as we possibly can and then handle the maximum workload we can take on. We want our clients to feel taken care of, to be comfortable.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Flexibility, prioritization of values, a great team.

Flexibility: there’s so much that gets thrown at us every day, much of it completely outside of our control. Taking the time to mindfully adapt to each new situation and consider challenges in light of our values, sets us apart from many of our peers.

Prioritization of Values: the first thing we had to figure out when we considered becoming a company was what our values were. For us, we came to the conclusion that we have to be a radically people first organization. That means we take care of our team and our clients to the fullest extent, even when it’s hard, even if it hurts our bottom line.

A Great Team: a team is not made up exclusively of those working for the company, it’s everyone in our corner. Those friends and family who give advice, supplement our expertise, and offer unconditional support are vital to our success.

My best advice to cultivating these qualities is to be mindful in every part of your business. Really deeply consider what you’re doing and why. This practice will allow you to grow any of these qualities and others that may be more specific to your journey.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

We are always looking for new people to collaborate with. Right now our main area of focus is growth. We’ve done great with the clients we have and we’ve built a really effective infrastructure. Now it’s time to grow and spread the word. Part of this venture if finding new ways to participate in our communities. We don’t want to be just another business, we want to be a force for good.
