Meet Quentin Michael Dickerson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Quentin Michael Dickerson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Quentin Michael, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I would have to say that my parents and grandparents instilled a sense of generosity in me from a young age. They taught me that it is better to give than to receive, and this lesson has stayed with me throughout my life. Seeing how they exemplified this through their daily actions, I have come to realize that giving is all that I know.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a human being who is simply trying to live a good life and bring joy to others. I am proud to be the senior pastor of two churches in the greater Nashville area: United Family Fellowship and Hamilton United Methodist Church. Both of these churches are dedicated to serving their local communities by providing weekly spiritual empowerment, food, training classes, day-care, as well as space for small or large events.

In addition to my work as a pastor, I am also a recording musician (pianist/organist) and an entrepreneur who travels frequently with my band, The Quentin Michael Music Group. I am passionate about everything I do because it all relates in some way to serving others.

Speaking of serving others, on Saturday, March 16, at 2 PM, my band, The Quentin Michael Music Group, will be holding a live recording right here in Nashville, TN.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1) Networking
2) Obtaining mentors
3) Reading as much as possible

One of the most valuable pieces of advice I can offer is to seek out mentors who can guide you in your chosen field and help you fulfill your purpose. With the support of a mentor, you can achieve things you never thought possible and navigate new areas with confidence. Moreover, a mentor will keep you on track towards your goals and offer valuable insights to help you reach them more quickly. Remember, you are not alone on your journey, and seeking guidance from those who have walked the path before you can make all the difference.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When life gets overwhelming, it’s important to take a step back and give yourself some much-needed self-care. For me, being near water has a calming effect that helps me feel at peace. Whether it’s a river, lake, or ocean, just the sound of water can do wonders for my mental health.

If I have the opportunity, I love to travel to warm, tropical places where I can fully immerse myself in nature and feel the sun on my skin. It’s an incredible way to hit the reset button and come back feeling refreshed.

But when I can’t get away, I turn to my piano and play until all my worries disappear. It’s a cathartic experience that brings me a lot of joy and helps me find a sense of balance.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I want you to know that it’s okay to take a break and focus on yourself. Find something that brings you happiness and do it within reason. And most importantly, know that you’re not alone. Pray to God, and ask for peace and understanding, and trust that things will get better.
