We recently connected with Quindarius Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Quindarius , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
The way I keep my creativity alive is by always pulling inspiration from my real life. One of my key brand components is honesty , being able to be true to who you are good, bad, and ugly. When I use real life experiences and events to feed my creativity it constantly gives me ideas and concepts to write about. You can tell a story from many different perspectives that really capture different pieces of that one story. Just keeping true to this and keeping an open mind helps alot.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an artist/ writer/ studio engineer and all around creative. I spend my days often listening to beats, creating them myself, writing verses and hooks, and mixing and mastering my music. I love every aspect of what I do and the authenticity I embody not only in music but in everyday life. I started out at Allgood Elementary where I sung in the chorus and even made it to “Honor’s Chorus”. Growing up plays a big part in both my brand and my real life persona. The many struggles and battles I faced through my young life shaped and taught me about myself, and helped me understand my purpose. Being an mature adult helped me reflect and understand how to change my pain into art. Had I not went through so many life experiences young I don’t believe Id be the person or artist I am today. My identity, sound, and confidence didn’t become realized until I truly reflected on my life and who I am. I was musically inspired by Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, and Chris Brown. The first two on this list are my biggest influences especially Nicki, she is the reason I understand versatility and that artist don’t have to box themselves in. I use to think I had to be in one genre and that I was to different but her drive and success inspired me and reassured me its okay to do pop, rap, alt, etc because I am a artist not just a writer. My brand is more of a Dark Luxury vibe, so my new music is a more cinematic, honest, self reflective, sometimes eerie sound, but my overall music falls heavily into R&B, Rap, and Pop music. When you listen to my music you not only hear honesty but originality, no artist sounds like me and I take pride in that because I can build my own lane. Also, now I’m in school for Audio production in my final year at The Los Angeles Fil School, so I could actually learn the in’s and out’s of music itself. Two major things that I’m very proud of is that I am an official Bentley Records Artist and now working with the sync agency called Push Audio and I am so blessed and grateful for that opportunity, stay tuned you may hear me in your next Netflix drama series! I have a few new songs dropping next year as well and they are; Rain, Shadows In The Dark, Honest, One Of Them Days, and Broken Homes. These are my most honest and elevated songs in terms of artistic evolution, cohesion, sound, and lyrical ability. I cant wait to share them with the world as my label and I think these are my best songs to date!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three of my most important aspects are my resiliency, honesty, and confidence. My resilience has helped me a lot through the different struggles and downfalls in my journey, it honestly helped me turn lemons in to lemonade. I realized my honesty was a big part of my brand. Actually being the person you hear in the music and not straying away from my real life circumstances gave my music and I a push I wouldn’t have expected. Confidence is so big because you have to love all of you when you look in the mirror because its going to be times when its just you and that reflection. To anybody on that journey just remember you have to be your own biggest fan in every aspect. When the lights go down you have to live with your decisions and life, Do NOT stray away from your life story and who you are because that is what defines who you have become. Live for YOU not them.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
My biggest obstacle currently is exposure. Its millions of people in the world and we all have a fanbase out there, finding them tends to be the hardest part. Now every social media is monetized and algorithmic so maximizing viewership and finding your audience takes more planning, financial means, and networking. What I’m currently doing is I’ve created a 6 month plan to maximize my viewership and consistency. This includes multiple post weekly to not only get my music out there but to get the algorithm to include me in the content push. I also do things like go to the malls on weekends and pass out cards with QR codes the send people to my latest project . I plan to start doing flyers with QR codes as well and hanging them around the city. To tackle networking I have started doing more artist showcases, webinars, and going to music conventions if I can find them. With these different methods I hope to truly maximize my reach and grow my audience by doing the leg work and digital work.
