Meet Quinnita Faith Edwards

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quinnita Faith Edwards. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Quinnita Faith, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
When you’re a kid, creativity and imagination come as naturally as breathing. It’s not something that you have to think about, it’s just something that you do – no hesitations, no restraint, no second guessing. You just pick up a stick, and suddenly you’re a wizard with their wand, riding a dragon up to Mars.

Unfortunately, something happens as you become an adult …our wands turn into firewood, our dragons have long run away from home, and our trips are no longer to outer space, but to the grocery store. Life traps us into the mundane and we become prisoners to monotony. In less dramatic terms, we simply stop nourishing the creative side of ourselves.

Why do we do that?

Is it because of what society says? Is it because of fear? Embarrassment…insecurity and inadequacy? For me, it was all of the above. But no matter how much I tried to starve my creative side, it showed me that it would survive, even if it fed only on crumbs.

Once I accepted that my creativity had tenacity, I started feeding it more. I tried new things, engaged in creative activities, and took breaks to clear my mind. I surrounded myself with inspiring people and environments, and leaned into fostering new experiences. I challenged myself to carve out intentional moments where I could disappear into the worlds that I visited when I was younger, picking up my wand and just breathing in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In May 2022, I left my corporate job and became a full time Content Creator. After spending over 10 years building everyone else’s dreams, I made the choice to become intentional about building my own. While I still do a little freelance work on the side, being fully committed to myself is definitely the main focus.

The journey has been more than a little scary, and I often compare it to being on a rollercoaster. You have your highs, lows, twists, loops and turns, but if you’re going to ride, you better be ready to handle it all! I’m excited to see where this ride takes me with my writing, acting, and directing.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In my journey as a content creator, it has been vital for me to lean into trusting my creativity, developing strong research skills, and building up a discipline for my craft.

I had to learn how to trust the ideas that came from my mind. If I didn’t, I’d get stuck in a cycle of overthinking, and under producing. It’s hard trusting that your stuff is good, but it’s also hard letting it sit inside your brain. I had to pick my “hard” and I chose the one that came with follow through and results.

I also had to make sure I was consistently feeding myself information so I wouldn’t be drawing from an empty well. Be open to learning new things and continually expanding your skills and knowledge.

The most important thing on my creative journey has been learning how to develop discipline. Discipline will help you when motivation is lost and confidence is non-existent. It teaches you not to rely strictly on your emotions and feelings, but how to shift accountability towards your gift. No matter what you pursue in life, to me, discipline is a trait you need to develop.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
This has been one of the hardest years I’ve ever faced because I had to face myself.

In all transparency, I am not a fighter. I quit and give up very easily when it comes to my hopes and dreams. But for the past year, I have had to build and develop a muscle that didn’t exist.

As crazy as it sounds, believing in myself is the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. I’m proud that I finally placed all bets on me.
