Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Qwesha Coutou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Qwesha, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I was raised by a strong, nurturing West Indian Queen. With kindness as my foundation, I have practiced a minimal, selfless lifestyle dedicating my life to a cause greater than myself. In return, my life has become a glorious romance and adventure.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a native of Trinidad and Tobago & currently soaking up vitamin D in sunny South Florida. In my free time you’ll find me outdoors, cycling, swimming at the beach or feasting on authentic West Indian and Asian cuisine. Professionally, I’m focused on bridging the educational gap of international first generation college students. Advocating for families experiencing economical and language barriers has empowered me to pivot into communication and design strategy to elevate non profit organizations and small business owners servicing the Caribbean and African diaspora. While Caribbean nations are accustomed to harnessing talent, this is truly what’s most exciting about my work. I get the pleasure of channeling my unflinching belief in the next generation to master the world in their respective fields.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Effective communication, team work and saying no were the most impactful lessons learned on my journey. For folks starting off, the best path to self development & discovery is to drown out the outside noise and follow your heart steadfastly, it’ll never steer you wrong. Most importantly, closed doors are guides to the correct path. It’s always easy when it’s right and right when it’s easy.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra is a rejuvenating, weekly read to keep me on the path of pure potentiality and infinite creativity. The most valuable takeaways is first, knowing the field of pure potentiality is the source of all power, intelligence and infinite organizing ability. Secondly, understanding we have the ability to fulfill any dream or desire once we know our true self by experiencing the power of our spirit.
