We were lucky to catch up with Raam Band recently and have shared our conversation below.
RAAM, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
It’s all about immersing myself in the world around me and never forgetting where I come from. My creativity thrives on movement—traveling to new places, absorbing new sounds, and connecting with diverse cultures. Growing up in Alexandria, Egypt, I was surrounded by the sea, markets, and a mix of African and Middle Eastern rhythms. I used to manually connect two cassette players just to mix tracks and experiment with sound. It taught me that creativity isn’t about having the best equipment or perfect conditions—it’s about curiosity and passion.
Today, I still keep that same hunger. I dive into unfamiliar music, from tribal beats in Africa to deep underground house from Europe, and I look for connections between these sounds. I step outside my comfort zone constantly—working with live percussionists, infusing Amazigh chants, or blending tech beats with Oriental strings.
But the real key is people. When I see a crowd react—when they smile, dance, or just close their eyes—that energy fuels me to create again. I see music as a bridge between cultures, and every set I play is a new canvas to bring that bridge to life. So, I keep my creativity alive by staying open, staying curious, and most importantly, staying connected to the rhythm of the world.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
RAAM BAND’s story is one of passion, persistence, and creativity, deeply rooted in the vibrant cultural and historical tapestry of Alexandria, Egypt. Born on December 8, 1987, in this bustling Mediterranean city, RAAM BAND was profoundly influenced by its rich heritage, dynamic energy, and blend of traditional and modern cultures. Alexandria, with its ancient legacy and cosmopolitan atmosphere, played a pivotal role in shaping his artistic vision and igniting his love for music and technology.
As a child, RAAM BAND was captivated by the city’s sounds — from the bustling marketplaces to the waves crashing against the Corniche. This auditory landscape, combined with his fascination for emerging technologies, inspired him to experiment with music at an early age. Between 1997 and 1999, he began creating mixtapes using two cassette players manually connected, showcasing his innovative spirit and technical curiosity. At just 13, he sold these tapes to friends, sparking his entrepreneurial spirit and showcasing his knack for crafting unique sounds.
In 1999, he transitioned from making mixtapes to DJing for small gatherings, where his talent quickly stood out. By 2000, his name was well-known among friends and the school community, and his sets began to draw attention for their ability to blend genres seamlessly. However, RAAM BAND’s real turning point came in 2003 when, at just 16 years old, he moved to the Red Sea area to pursue music as a full-time career.
Starting as a resident DJ at hotels and resorts such as Hilton, InterContinental, Sun International, Bravo Club, and TUI Group, he gained valuable experience performing for diverse audiences. During this time, RAAM BAND also worked closely with agencies, selling curated music to other DJs and venues, expanding his network, and refining his craft. By 2005, his skills had earned him a reputation for delivering high-energy, immersive performances that resonated across cultures.
Between 2003 and 2010, RAAM BAND collaborated with Buddha Bar, Hard Rock Cafes, VIP CLUB, and the Ministry Of Sound in Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Nabq Bay, Dubai, and Paris. These gigs, including pre-opening setups and grand events, allowed him to establish himself on an international stage among Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. This period was formative, teaching him the nuances of live performances and audience connection.
In a career-defining moment, RAAM BAND had the honor of opening for Beyoncé during her iconic I Am… World Tour on November 6, 2009, at the Port Ghalib Resort in Marsa Alam, Egypt. This historic event marked Beyoncé’s first-ever performance on the African continent, and RAAM BAND set the stage with an electrifying set that showcased his unique Afro-house sound. Performing for a massive international audience, he captivated the crowd with his seamless fusion of African rhythms and modern beats, solidifying his status as a rising star in the global music scene.
RAAM BAND’s music evolved, incorporating his deep appreciation for African rhythms, Oriental melodies, and underground house music. His Afro-house sound — a fusion of Afro-beats, Latin grooves, Swahili vocals, and traditional percussion — became his signature, earning him the title The Sound of Africa. He became a pioneer of the Afro-house movement, blending cultural heritage with modern beats to create an electrifying experience for listeners.
His career reached new heights as he performed at major concerts and events, solidifying his presence in the international music scene. Alongside his performances, RAAM BAND produced iconic tracks, including Oasis Dream (Instrumental Mix) and African Night in New York (Original Mix). His work received accolades, including having Oasis Dream selected as the soundtrack for the short film Helm El Sahara (Desert Dream), showcased at the Cairo Film Festival.
RAAM BAND’s creativity extends beyond performances to curating unique event concepts like African Night in New York, Global Fusion Journey, and Candy Bash Groove. These events celebrate cultural diversity and musical innovation, uniting audiences across continents through sound.
RAAM BAND is more than a DJ and producer; he is a global ambassador for Afro-house and a cultural storyteller. Through his music, he connects traditions, celebrates heritage, and builds bridges between communities. Whether performing for intimate gatherings or massive festivals, his journey from mixtapes in Alexandria to international acclaim is a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft and his mission to unite the world through music.
Beyond his musical achievements, RAAM BAND is deeply committed to giving back to the community and empowering the next generation. He regularly embarks on philanthropic tours across the African continent, teaching young people the art of DJing and music production, inspiring them to explore their creativity and pursue their dreams. Additionally, he actively supports charities, NGOs, and community services by performing at their events, using his talent to raise awareness and funds for meaningful causes. Through these efforts, RAAM BAND continues to make a lasting impact, not only as a musical icon but also as a champion of positive change and cultural empowerment.
Today, RAAM BAND calls New York City home, where he continues to push the boundaries of his music and connect with diverse audiences. Living in one of the world’s cultural hubs, he draws inspiration from the city’s vibrant energy and melting pot of influences, further enriching his unique sound. From creating groundbreaking tracks to performing at iconic venues, RAAM BAND remains dedicated to his mission of uniting people through music, all while celebrating his roots and sharing his passion with the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1- Passion: Passion is the heartbeat of any creative journey. From manually mixing cassettes in Alexandria as a teenager to headlining international events, my passion for music kept me going—even when resources were limited, or challenges felt overwhelming. For anyone starting their journey, I’d say: nurture that fire. Surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams, dive deep into your craft, and remember why you started. When you love what you do, it shows, and the world takes notice.
2- Adaptability: The music industry—and life itself—is always changing. Early in my career, I learned to adapt by performing for diverse audiences and blending different sounds, from local African percussion to global tech beats. Adaptability taught me to thrive in any environment, whether it’s a rooftop show in New York or an intimate beachside event. My advice? Be open to learning. Master your tools, explore new ideas, and don’t fear failure—each moment is a chance to evolve.
3- Cultural Awareness: Music is about connection, and understanding culture allows you to create sounds that resonate deeply. I’ve drawn inspiration from Amazigh traditions, Swahili vocals, Oriental strings, and Bedouin rhythms—all while weaving these into modern house and tech beats. For those starting out: listen more than you play. Travel, if you can. Learn stories behind sounds and rhythms. Respect the heritage of the music you incorporate and let it guide your creativity. The more you connect to cultures, the more powerful your art will become.
At the end of the day, success comes from staying true to your vision while being open to growth. Keep learning, keep listening, and most importantly—never stop creating.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was their unwavering support, no matter what path I chose. Even when I was young, they stood by me, even if they didn’t fully understand or agree with my decisions. Initially, they hoped I would continue in computer engineering, a field I had studied and excelled in before music completely took over my life. But they never stopped me from doing what I loved—they let me find my way.
My father, being incredibly innovative and tech-savvy, created an environment where I grew up surrounded by new technologies and tools. He was always an early adopter of any new tech, and this inspired me to experiment, create, and push boundaries in my own work. That curiosity and drive I have today stem from him.
My mother, on the other hand, had a deep love for classical music, and she played a significant role in shaping my ear for melody, harmony, and the emotional depth of sound. Through her, I discovered the beauty of classical music, and even today, it influences how I approach my music, blending timeless sounds with modern beats.
Their balance—my father’s innovative mindset and my mother’s appreciation for tradition—instilled in me a unique perspective. It taught me to honor the past while embracing the future, which is at the heart of everything I create today. I’ll always be grateful for their trust and for letting me follow my passion.
