We recently connected with Rachael Cappuccino and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. Growing up, I watched my parents work extremely hard as they excelled in their careers. Now having my own family, I don’t know how my mom managed to work from 8-5 every day and still come home and have time to make a 3 course meal for all of us-that is not a skill I have mastered yet!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner of Cappuccino Physical Therapy, a pelvic floor physical therapy clinic that specializes in treating pregnant and postpartum women. I started Cappuccino PT after the births of her two children because she believes that an active lifestyle does not end with motherhood. Having experienced both a vaginal delivery and a cesarean, I understand the physical challenges that come with pregnancy and recovery from birth. Too many women accept these challenges as their new reality when she firmly believes that most can be treated with pelvic floor physical therapy.
I have taken many continuing education courses specializing in pelvic health and the female athlete returning to sport postpartum. She is also a certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach and Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist. I believe that every pregnant and postpartum woman should receive pelvic floor physical therapy in order to perform whatever activity they desire, even after having children.
The most special part of my job is really making an impact in so many women’s lives. As mothers, we get put on the back burner to take care of everyone else’s needs, but tend to forget about ourselves. So when I hear someone come back and tell me they were able to run without leaking or have pain free intercourse, I feel so grateful that I was able to make a significant impact in their quality of life.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion Determination
Empathy
For those who are early on in their journey-find what you are passionate about and also find a business coach. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Learn from those ahead of you in order to create your own path.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I have always been close with my parents, but find I need them now more than ever as an adult with my own children! My parents have always been there supporting my dreams while giving me space to grow. In my adult life, they have provided me with encouragement, especially as I started my own business, free legal advice, handyman services, many many meals and lots of babysitting. I would not be able to do any of this without their support and help. My favorite thing is to watch the bond they have with my own children. In fact, just this morning, I made my son pancakes and he told me “I only like Papa’s pancakes!” (Three year olds!) I am so thankful for everything my parents have done for me.
