Meet Rachael Rennert

We recently connected with Rachael Rennert and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachael, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I believe I got my resilience from having overcome difficulties.

I struggled with losing my mother over 8 years ago. She died after a long battle with cancer. I worked tirelessly to get her to the best doctors and served as her advocate, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. I still am not over that, and it affects me to this day. But it has given me perspective.

I was in an unhappy marriage for a long time and stayed way too long. It just wasn’t a great match. But we had two amazing kids and I did my best to not disrupt their lives. When I finally found the courage to finally end it, Covid hit, and we were stuck in the house together for some time.

During that time, my kids did not fare that well with Covid. I devoted a lot of my time and energy to making sure they got where they needed to be, and it wore on me. But I did it. And I worked very hard to provide for them, I think successfully.

Then a major event happened. My ex-husband seemed to be having memory issues. After my son went off to college, were were able to get him to a neurologist and he was diagnosed with Frontol Temporal Dementia. It is a horrible disease that is robbing my kid of their father. I had to get him retired from his job and moved across the country to be near his brothers, as that is where he wanted to spend his retirement. Since then, I have been working on all the legal and financial issues that go along with this type of diagnosis. I am doing it so my kids can just be regular college students and not bear this burden.

All of these things gave me an epiphany, and I decided to pivot my career and use my skills in a way that woudl help people. That is why I am pursuing my Accredited Financial Counselor certifications and is why I became a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. I am now working as a CDFA in my own practice, working on the financial apects of divorces for people. It’s extremely challenging but rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Resourcefullness, Financial Analysis, Determination

Advice would be – if you want to do something different, do it. Do your homework, be prepared, take care of you. A lot of times we are so busy taking care of everyone else we forget about ourselves. In the end, we are our best advocates for ourselves.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am looking for people who come in contact with individuals early in their decision making process when it comes to divorce. Therapists, accountants or investment advisors come to mind. In my work, the earlier a CDFA is involved in the process, the better the financial outcome.
