We recently connected with Rachael Wade and have shared our conversation below.
Rachael , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
My relationship with God has always been the anchoring force that has brought me into rooms and kept me steady when I walk through doors. Being “the only” mixed-race Black and Asian woman has never been easy, but I know what I bring to the table, and I know I’m beloved by God. Showing up as myself, allowing my gifts to shine, encouraging others to shine, and working collaboratively make work fun and often deliver results.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
About Me:
Rachael is the Founder & Chief Encourager at Olive Us, a ministry where women share their “in-process” stories recounting to remember God’s goodness & faithfulness. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Cincinnati and is pursuing her Master of Arts in Contextual Leadership at Pillar Seminary. Writing poetry, prose, and devotionals are some of her favorite ways to share God’s glory & love. You can read Rachael’s writing at She Reads Truth, The Fallow House, and Substack. Living, loving, and leading in San Francisco for the last decade, Rachael enjoys teaching at Epic Church SF, collaborating with individuals and small businesses, and encouraging people to live out their God-given assignments.
What I do:
Bible Teacher, Writer, Seminary Student, Encourager
What’s exciting or unique about what I do:
I get to do what I love! Study and teach the Bible and walk alongside others. I love story! So, connecting with others and having a ministry with a podcast that includes in-process stories fills me with much joy. Everyone has a story, and I love to hold space to hear them.
I’m excited about:
Olive Us Restored! These in-person curated retreats help women rest, delight, connect, and grow.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Courage
Resilience
Honor & Ethics
Nothing comes easy! Courage and resilience are like a muscle. They only get strengthened through time & the mountains and valleys of life. Muscles get strengthened through consistent strength training. Show up to your life and recognize that we are all ‘in process.’ Commit to being a lifelong learner and stay humble. Remember, you’ll make mistakes, but if you’re open, there are gifts for the future to propel you forward and learn from. Above all, stay true to yourself, your morals, and your ethics. Treat others with honor and respect. Build diverse tables and love people well. You will never regret being kind, loving, respectful, encouraging others, and sponsoring people to grow further and farther than you!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My most significant area of improvement in the last twelve months has been taking the time to care for myself. In the middle of tough life stuff happening, I’ve tended to go go go and not receive the gift of rest God has given me. Implementing various ways to rest in my days and “going away” at times to recharge, pray, and BE has been life-changing.
