We were lucky to catch up with Racheal Flanagan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Racheal , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
As a young mom life was very difficult. When I was just 20 years old with a 2 and 3 year old I had the opportunity to work with the most loving, kind-hearted preschool teacher. She was so giving to me. She gave me confidence in my parenting and encouraged me to go to college. There were many times I needed to lean into others to survive. Due to the challenges of my young adult years, I have found it important to help with others in need. I love to support my teaching teams, my local community and others from around the world.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an Early Childhood Professional determined to provide the best experience for children, teachers and their families. I am the owner and CEO of The Joyful Jungle Christian Learning Center and contributing partner at The Canopy Studios. We provide unique experience for children. Teaching them the love of Jesus, while providing exceptional care. My newest endeavor, The Canopy Studios give children a plan to come and play throughout the day. Our current design gives families of children 0-5 years old a place that is safe, clean, inquisitive to learn while having fun.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Grit, Drive, and Faith. I take inspiration from the Bible. Business has many challenges. In the beginning, I spent a lot of time on my knees praying for guidance. Honestly, I still do. I can remember in the beginning when something would happen that was unexpected I would resight James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Another phase I would use a lot is “I can do anything for —— long.” It really did push me behind what I believed I was capable of.
For someone new on their journey, just know that every challenge comes with a opportunity for growth. There will be really great days and some not so great days, but just keep pushing forward.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth has been being able to be the support others around me need, but not at my own expense. I can love others, help them achieve more, and build them up without obligating myself to their inabilities. In the past I would have pushed and eventually done the work for them. Now, I help set goals and growth so they can achieve it themselves.
