Meet Rachel Deschaine

We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Deschaine recently and have shared our conversation below.

Rachel, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose when I started to think of a job in the creative field as a service job. Because when you think about it, that’s really what it is. In my own life, consuming art greatly improves my quality of life. Listening to music, watching shows and movies, or reading are always some of the best parts of my day. It’s so easy in a creative industry to focus on personal accolades and achievements. When you remember that at the end of the day, your job is to bring some color to someone else’s life, you know your purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I love writing catchy and relatable songs. You can find my music on Spotify, Amazon and iTunes. I also make music videos on my YouTube channel. I’m obsessed with crafting a song that you will want to listen to on repeat. I spend a lot of time in studios writing and recording but I also have some shows coming up in the fall. My most recent release is “Kim K”, which I am super proud of. You can watch the accompanying music video on my YouTube channel!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think being able to recognize what makes the things you admire what they are and being able to replicate that in your own way. Also taking criticism is very important. Finally, I would say being someone that people enjoy working with, which includes being pleasant and punctual. Honestly, my advice for developing these skills would be to get as much experience as you can.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

They never told me that a career in a creative field was unrealistic. I have many friends whose parents frowned on their career choice but mine never did and I will forever be grateful for that.
