We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Farmer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My journey to finding my purpose has been a blend of exploration, self-discovery, and listening to what truly ignites my passion. From a young age, I knew I had a deep desire to help people and an intrigue for science. Initially, I pursued the idea of becoming a doctor, but as I learned more about the path, I realized that becoming a physician assistant (PA) would offer me the flexibility I valued—better work-life balance, the ability to change specialties, and the opportunity to practice medicine without the extensive schooling and financial burden associated with being a doctor.
Before diving into PA school, I began working remotely with Arbonne, a health and wellness company, and discovered a growing passion for helping people improve their health through lifestyle changes. Although I continued my studies and earned my masters in medical science to become a PA, it became clear that my true passion lay in areas outside of medications and surgeries. I deeply respect the importance of these treatments, but I found myself more drawn to educating others on nutrition, non-toxic products, and sustainable healthy living.
After working as a PA-C in dermatology, I quickly burned out from the fast-paced nature of seeing numerous patients each day. I craved more time to educate and connect with my patients, realizing that I had more to offer. That internal calling to explore a different path grew louder, and I decided to take a step back to reevaluate how I could make a more meaningful impact.
I took a transformative trip to Bali, where I attended a 200-hour yoga teacher training. It was there that I discovered a new, powerful way to help people—not just through the body, but by connecting the body, mind, and spirit. The experience ignited a deep sense of purpose within me. I felt a level of excitement and fulfillment I hadn’t experienced in a clinical setting. Yoga, breathwork, and philosophy became tools I wanted to share with others to help them on their own wellness journeys.
This experience led me to study Ayurveda and earn my health coaching certification through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. It became clear that I wanted to bring a more holistic approach to health and wellness, which is why I founded Rachel Farmer Wellness. My business is rooted in the belief that true wellness encompasses not just the body, but also the mind and spirit. Through holistic health coaching, yoga, and my ongoing partnership with Arbonne, I am able to help people transform their lives by educating them on sustainable, natural wellness practices.
What I’ve learned through my journey is that purpose doesn’t always come in a straight line. It’s about listening to yourself, being open to new experiences, and honoring what truly lights you up. Rachel Farmer Wellness is the result of that self-discovery, and my mission is to help others find their own path to wellness, so they can live with more energy, vitality, and joy.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
At Rachel Farmer Wellness, I offer a range of services designed to help you achieve your happiest, healthiest, and most balanced self. My passion lies in educating others about nutrition, non-toxic products, lifestyle practices, and yoga philosophy. I truly enjoy having meaningful conversations with my clients and guiding them to create sustainable changes in their lives.
I offer both in-person and online yoga classes for individuals, groups, and corporate settings, with a special focus on beginners. I love introducing new students to yoga and helping them build a strong foundation in the practice. In addition, I’ve recently begun partnering with small businesses to host events that bring people together and foster a sense of community.
I am also a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Holistic Health Coaching program and am currently preparing for board certification. In the next few months, I will be launching a more comprehensive coaching offering. Currently, I coach clients through nutrition and wellness programs using high-quality supplements that I personally trust and recommend.
Whether I’m guiding clients on the mat or helping them with their wellness goals off the mat, there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing my clients achieve their goals and improve their lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience, courage, and belief have been the three most impactful qualities in my journey. Starting a business and stepping away from the conventional path requires not just a vision, but the resilience to overcome challenges, the courage to face the unknown, and the belief in myself to keep going. Resilience is crucial because the journey is often difficult and unpredictable, and it takes perseverance to keep moving forward despite setbacks.
I am incredibly grateful for the supportive network of people around me who have helped me build my self-belief, but at the end of the day, it was up to me to believe in myself. I truly see resilience, courage, and belief as muscles that need to be nurtured and exercised daily. One of the most important steps is surrounding yourself with people who uplift and encourage you, and being mindful of your inner dialogue, the media you consume, and the people you interact with. These things can either strengthen your belief or, if you’re not careful, tear it down.
Courage is built through taking consistent action, even when fear or doubt tries to hold you back. Resilience is developed over time by maintaining a “no matter what” attitude, learning from each experience, and continuously pushing forward. Together, these qualities have been my foundation in navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and personal growth.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I do is focus on calming my nervous system. I return to my breath, noticing where I feel the overwhelming sensations in my body, and take deep, grounding breaths. Movement—especially yoga—helps me release stagnant energy and connect with my body, pulling me out of my mind. If I can, I also step outside into nature, even for just a few deep breaths, as it always helps me reconnect and ground myself.
Once I’ve regained a sense of calm and have more control over my mind and emotions, I reassess the situation or problem. I then work on reframing it in a more positive and productive light. For instance, if I’m feeling overwhelmed with work, I remind myself how grateful I am to be busy with things that truly light me up.
