Meet Rachel Green

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Green a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Rachel, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I keep my creativity alive by constantly seeking inspiration. I love exploring, trying out different things, and just letting my mind wander. Whether it’s a weird design I see on a building or a cool texture I feel, I’m always on the lookout for something that sparks my imagination.

I also think it’s important to just experiment and have fun. I love playing around with different techniques, even if I don’t know exactly what I’m going to create. Sometimes the best ideas come from unexpected places.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m passionate about creating unique and sustainable home goods. I make coconut wax blend candles in handcrafted concrete jars, ensuring a clean and eco-friendly burn. Each candle is free of parabens and phthalates, making them safe for both people and pets. My candles have fun and witty names/descriptions that are sure to make them stand out even more.

What I find most exciting about my business is the opportunity to combine form and function. I love the idea of transforming a simple candle into a beautiful home decor piece. Each concrete jar is unique, and once your candle has burned, you can repurpose it as a planter, pen holder, or other creative use. It’s a small way to reduce waste and add a personal touch to your home.

From pouring the concrete into the mold to the finished product, each candle takes about three weeks to create.

Before starting this venture, I was a busy animal hospital manager/tech for 6 years. Now, I’m embracing my role as a stay-at-home mom, raising our energetic toddler. In another life, I’d probably be a crazy plant lady. While I may not have the greenest thumb, I still love the beauty and tranquility that plants bring to a space.

My “Festive Collection” will be launching on November 18th and I just added a rewards program to my website called “The Glow Gang” I have a stacked holiday market season that can always be found pinned on my insta page.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience: The entrepreneurial path is often filled with unexpected challenges. Resilience has been crucial in overcoming setbacks, learning from failures, and persevering through difficult times. To develop resilience, I recommend embracing a growth mindset, practicing mindfulness, and building a strong support network.

Adaptability: The business landscape is constantly evolving. The ability to adapt to change and pivot your strategy when necessary is essential. Stay informed about industry trends, be open to new ideas, and don’t be afraid to experiment.

Creativity: Creativity is the driving force behind innovation. It allows you to think outside the box, develop unique products or services, and stand out from the competition. To foster creativity, explore different interests, engage in creative hobbies, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Advice for Early-Stage Entrepreneurs:

Embrace the Learning Process: Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow. Be open to feedback, seek out mentors, and take advantage of educational resources.

Build Strong Relationships: Networking is essential for building a successful business. Connect with other entrepreneurs, industry experts, and potential customers.

Take Action: Don’t just dream about your business; take action. Start small, set achievable goals, and celebrate your successes.

Believe in Yourself: Self-belief is crucial for overcoming obstacles and achieving your goals. Visualize your success, practice positive affirmations, and surround yourself with positive influences.

*Never stop believing in yourself!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes! I am always looking for ways to grow, meet new people, and get my name out there. I would love to collab with wellness and self care brands, home decor, or even a plant shop. Finding other small businesses to collab with on gift boxes/sets. Can reach out via facebook or instagram @moodbloomcandleco or email me at rachel@moodbloomcandles.com
