Meet Rachel Greenspan

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Greenspan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.

Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I think my work ethic stems a lot from my parents and living in New York. My dad was in sales and always focused on driving business for his company. Everyone in New York was constantly hustling and it was part of the culture to grind hard and then have fun afterwards.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the owner of a cozy pizzeria in Montecito called Bettina, as well as a fast casual pizza and provisions shop called Tina’s Pizza in Carpinteria. I focus on the admin side of both businesses but the most fun part for me is the sourcing and collaboration with our chefs on new menu items. Our restaurant is hyper seasonal so it’s always exciting to see what our chef can come up with as one ingredient goes outs of season and new ones come along.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Polite persistence is extremely important, especially when running multiple business and trying to keep track of everything.

Empathy when communicating and working with so many people everyday is essential.

I have a major love or food and hospitality and just eating out at restaurants. I think the knowledge I’ve gleaned from spending my 20’s in New York City and being so enmeshed in that food scene helped to develop the service culture we have at Bettina and Tina’s today.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Breath work has actually become an immensely helpful tool for dealing with stress. I also try to give myself an hour in the morning before looking at my phone and not get on my computer after 6pm if I can avoid it. This helps my brain and body actually calm down and stay calm at night and into the early morning hours.
