Meet Rachel Lippoldt

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Lippoldt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Rachel , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

As a woman leading in the home-building industry—a space where I’m often the only one in the room who looks like me—I’ve learned to turn what might feel like a disadvantage into a strength.

Being the “only one” has taught me to embrace authenticity and to confidently own my perspective. I don’t try to blend in; instead, I focus on standing out through my expertise, preparation, and determination. When I speak, I make sure my voice carries weight—not just in volume, but in the value I bring to the table.

I’ve also learned the importance of building alliances and earning respect through consistency. Whether it’s ensuring the quality of a project, solving problems under pressure, or demonstrating leadership, my results speak for themselves.

More importantly, I remind myself that I belong in these spaces because of my capability, vision, and hard work. I’ve stopped seeking external validation and started believing in my right to lead and succeed, regardless of who else is in the room.

I hope that by taking up space in these rooms, I’m creating a path for more women to join and reshape the industry alongside me. For me, success isn’t just about what I achieve, but about paving the way for others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As the owner of a home-building company, which I run alongside my husband, I take great pride in creating homes that families can truly call their own. With three children of my own, I know firsthand the importance of designing spaces that foster comfort, connection, and joy.

What makes my work so special is the opportunity to turn dreams into reality. I am deeply involved in every aspect of the process, from ensuring the highest quality materials to crafting designs that are both functional and beautiful. I focus on the details that make each home unique, reflecting the personality and needs of the families who will live there.

What excites me most about this work is seeing a vision come to life—watching an idea on paper become a home where memories will be made. I work tirelessly to ensure every project is a showcase of craftsmanship, creativity, and care.

Currently, I’m thrilled to be working on a new series of custom homes that integrate fresh design trends with timeless aesthetics. For me, this work is more than a career—it’s a calling. My goal is to create homes that inspire, support, and stand the test of time, while leaving a legacy of excellence and integrity in everything I build.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities have been instrumental in my journey: resilience, attention to detail, and the ability to build strong relationships.

Resilience has been vital in navigating the challenges of being a woman in the male-dominated home-building industry. There were times I had to prove myself in ways others didn’t, and staying focused on my goals instead of the obstacles made all the difference. My advice to anyone starting out is to embrace challenges as opportunities to grow and never lose sight of why you started in the first place.

Attention to detail is a cornerstone of what I do. Building homes is about so much more than walls and roofs—it’s about creating spaces that feel intentional and complete. Whether it’s the materials used, the flow of a design, or the finishing touches, the details matter. For those early in their journey, I’d say to cultivate a mindset of excellence. Be curious, ask questions, and never settle for “good enough.”

Lastly, building strong relationships has been a game-changer. From clients to contractors, fostering trust and open communication has been key to my success. Relationships aren’t just about networking—they’re about listening, understanding, and creating shared value. My advice? Focus on relationships as much as skills. Treat every interaction as a chance to learn, grow, and build connections that last.

No matter where you are in your journey, remember that the skills you develop today will define the success you achieve tomorrow. Be patient, be persistent, and always be willing to adapt.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Without a doubt, my husband Ryan has been one of the most instrumental people in helping me overcome challenges and develop the skills I needed to succeed. As my co-owner and partner, Ryan has supported me every step of the way—not just as a collaborator in our business but as someone who truly believes in my vision and my ability to lead in this industry.

Ryan has been my sounding board when tough decisions needed to be made and my biggest cheerleader when self-doubt crept in. His ability to show up for me, even during the most demanding times, has been invaluable. He’s not just a partner in business; he’s someone who has helped me grow personally and professionally by always encouraging me to trust my instincts, take calculated risks, and never shy away from standing out.

Through his unwavering support, I’ve learned to embrace challenges with confidence and resilience. He’s also helped me develop a balanced perspective—reminding me that even in a detail-driven industry, it’s the big picture that matters most.

For anyone seeking to grow in their journey, I’d say: Surround yourself with people who genuinely believe in you, challenge you to be better, and support you unconditionally. Whether it’s a spouse, a mentor, or a friend, having someone in your corner who lifts you up and holds you accountable can make all the difference.
