We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Lynch. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rachel with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I was taught from a very young age that doing what you love and putting effort into your ambitions is an important quality in life. My father, Daniel Lynch, was a disc jockey in the 80s, 90s and 2000s in Wichita, Kansas and as a young girl, I was always tagging along to help set up his equipment at different venues around the city. My earliest memories are ones watching my dad doing what he loved while also working full time jobs to support his family. And I was always put to work as well, hauling in a case of records or CDs on each arm and then hanging out and getting to dance and sing along to my favorite music while my dad set up. I worked as an elevator girl for my dad’s wedding reception hall when I was nine years old, where I would get dressed up in my Sunday-best, crank the manual elevator and help guests get to the second floor, all for some shiny gold dollar coins and the promise of a slice of wedding cake. My dad has always been my role model, exuding confidence, kindness and always encouraging me to explore and work hard for the things I love. Additionally, my mother, Madilyn, supported my dad while he worked several jobs and raised me to be a strong-willed, independent and caring woman, like she is. I am constantly shown examples of how to raise others up while standing up for what you believe in from both of my parents.
But I come from generations of working artists and business owners. My great grandfather, Frank Lynch, was a vaudeville performer and my great grandmother, Bernice Leu, was a silent film star. And their son, my grandfather, the late F.F. Mike Lynch, was a pivotal individual in the realm of country radio, becoming the first inductee into the Broadcasters category of the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1962 he created KFDI radio and it grew to become one of the most respected radio companies in America. He had stations all over the midwest, in Kansas, Colorado, Missouri and Louisiana, and KFDI was named Country Music Station of the Year twice by the Academy of Country Music Awards and Billboard magazine. My grandfather has always been an inspiration and role model for working hard for your dreams and aspiring to great things. By the end of his life he had also been inducted into the Kansas Broadcasting Hall of Fame, the Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame, the Broadcast Professionals of Wichita Hall of Fame, and the Cattleman’s Ball Hall of Fame. He left behind a legacy of inspiration and generosity, giving as much as he got to his church, the Boy Scouts, and the YMCA, to name a few, along with universities and medical institutions in the Wichita area.
I have been surrounded by an empire of creativity, drive and ambition, and I have the same passion for the entertainment and media industries as my family. I live and breathe the passion that generations of my family have passed down and I could not be more proud of where I come from. I strive every day to prove to those around me what hard work, resilience and the nerve to follow your dreams will get you. I am fulfilled in so many ways, knowing that I have the support of my parents, and that my grand parents and my great grandparents would be so proud of how far I’ve come and where I am going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I grew up in the “Air Capitol of the World”, Wichita, KS, and from a young age I have always been a creative at heart. Younger me spent a lot of time reading, enjoying movies and exploring the forest around my childhood home. I was always immersed in creating stories and fantasies that provided an escape from my simple, Midwest life. I aspired to become something bigger than what I knew. I developed my storytelling skills and began writing my own books, creating characters that would go on wild, fantastic journeys, meet interesting people and beings and experience amazing things. Sometimes, they would even save the world. I have always been a storyteller, and as my interests grew, so did my need to share not only my own stories, but others’ stories as well.
I am many things: a writer, journalist, performing poet, model, graphic designer, photographer and videographer. My weapon of choice at the moment is a camera; I photograph and visually develop musicians and entertainers in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am constantly behind my camera, shooting concerts, social content and promotional material for independent artists and performers as House of Black Rabbit. I love crafting a narrative, taking the audience on a journey and I’ve always been a storyteller and creative bursting with ideas. I use my expertise as an artist to see the bigger picture, generate creative ideas and develop artists’ style and visual direction, whether it’s how they present themselves, how they are represented in the social dimension, or coming up with creative concepts for photo shoots or music videos. I am fully immersed in creating fantastic things and sharing the stories of the amazing individuals I have the pleasure of getting to know. I am excited to be moving to Los Angeles next year, where I will be furthering my craft and expanding my reach to help more entertainers develop their identities in one of the biggest hubs for performers in the world. Being a storyteller is in my blood and every day I am blessed to be able to share this passion with the world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important skills I have developed in life are being kind (to yourself and to others), not being afraid to take risks and having resilience. You have to show up for yourself and you have to forgive yourself for the mistakes you will inevitably make in this life. And you must extend this kindness to others as well. Not everyone is on the same path as you, and we are all doing the best we can with what we have. Next, you can’t let fear hold you back from doing the things you want to do or the places you want to go. Life is a risk, and we should live everyday knowing we did everything we could to be happy. The final skill, resilience, is about having faith in yourself and forging ahead, even when times are difficult. There have been many times in my life when I knew giving up would be a lot easier, but I was never one for the easy route. I have so much faith and trust in myself because at those moments when I was going through the worst experiences, I kept going. I have been hard on myself, I am my biggest critic, but because I took the risks, I did the hard things, and I made it through, I know I can get through anything. I love who I have become and who I can be for myself and those around me.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who believes in themselves, builds up others around them, and puts in the work to become the best version of themselves, while also being willing to collaborate and allow others to wield their strengths. One of my biggest clients, Alex Sandra, a rock musician in the Bay Area, encompasses all these qualities; she works everyday at her craft and inspires so many people around her. We have been working together for over a year, collaborating on photoshoots, shooting social media content and I have worked several of her performances around the Bay Area. She believes in herself and others so much, she knows where her strengths are and where to bring other people in. I love to work with artists like her who know they can only do so much as a single individual and want to expand their team. The expertise and direction I provide to my clients allows them to be fully themselves and lean into what makes them unique. I provide a safe space for the entertainers I work with to explore different concepts and be understood. My clients know that when I show up, they’ll be getting quality work and they can focus on what is truly important to them. They put their trust in my creativity and problem-solving skills, and I deliver my best work every time.
