Meet Rachel Mcever

We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Mcever recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout

I’ve found that the key to avoiding burnout is setting boundaries, especially in such a fast-paced industry like real estate. When I started during the post-pandemic market craze, it was nonstop chaos, so I quickly realized the importance of carving out time for myself and really setting some healthy boundaries in my business. I think it’s really important to have something that can provide an escape from work, something that’s just for you, mine is going to my boxing gym and traveling with my son who plays competitive hockey.

I’ve also learned to prioritize quality over quantity when it comes to social events and work commitments. When I made the decision to step away from my real estate team to go out as a solo agent, it really taught me to focus on what aligns with my goals and that it’s ok to say no when something doesn’t fit. It’s hard to burn out when you genuinely enjoy what you’re doing and the people around you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’ve had the privilege of calling Nashville home for over 34 years, so I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible growth and transformation of this city and its surrounding areas. That deep local knowledge is something I bring to every client interaction—it helps me not only find the right homes but also guide clients to neighborhoods that truly fit their lifestyles.

I’m also a big foodie, so I love sharing my favorite restaurant and entertainment recommendations with clients and friends and really anyone visiting the area. Nashville’s dining and cultural scene is such a huge part of what makes living here special, and it’s fun to help clients connect with those experiences.

What I love most about real estate is the people. Every client has a unique story, and helping them achieve their dream of homeownership is truly so rewarding. Plus, I can always count on real estate to never be boring! Each day brings new opportunities, challenges, and experiences. It keeps me energized and excited for what’s next.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to networking and community involvement. Being a great communicator has helped me build trust and establish meaningful connections with clients and colleagues.

Adaptability is another major factor. Real estate is unpredictable, and being level-headed when unexpected situations arise has been crucial to navigating challenges and finding solutions. Lastly, networking and getting involved in the Nashville community have been game-changers for my career. Whether it’s through local charities, organizations, or just meeting people in the area, I’ve built relationships that go beyond transactions.

My advice for anyone early in their journey is simple: Never stop connecting with people & be willing to Work Hard! Get out into your community, meet people, and never stop learning. Success comes when you’re willing to put in the effort, stay curious, and remain connected to the people and places you serve.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I believe in going all in on your strengths because that’s where you can add the most value to the lives of the people around you and to your clients. When you lean into what comes naturally to you, it allows you to show up as the most genuine version of yourself, and that authenticity is what enables people to truly connect and relate to you.

For me, my strengths in communication, organization, and adaptability help me build trust with clients and guide them seamlessly through what can be a stressful process. By focusing on these strengths, I can give my clients the best version of me, which is what they deserve.

That being said, I also believe in striving for personal growth. I’m constantly reading books, listening to podcasts, and seeking ways to improve both mentally and physically. While I focus on my strengths, I’m also mindful of areas where I can grow, because bettering myself allows me to show up even stronger in the areas that matter most.
