Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rachel Pierre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rachel, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I love when someone asks me this question because you are looking at a girl who was super insecure and had zero confidence in herself, so much so that I would try to make myself not be seen or heard because I felt like I had nothing valuable to contribute. But for me it was truly simple, my physical appearance was the first step. Whether people like to admit it or not we live in a shallow world and I know for me my appearance was my biggest insecurity, namely my teeth. I had a huge overbite and lots of gaps and I knew that’s where I wanted to start in my journey. My parents couldn’t afford to pay for those kind of things for me growing up, so the moment I started working, I paid for myself to get braces. That’s what really catapulted everything, my confidence skyrocketed in a matter of months. It’s still a work in progress but I’m much further than I was before. I also feel like figuring out my IDENTITY was a huge factor in my confidence and self esteem. My identity is rooted in Christ and what He says about me. A great way that I started to understand that is figuring out who Jesus is to me. I started to get more into my Word and found a community of people that facilitated that. Apart from God, I also started to explore the things that I enjoyed; my fashion sense, paying attention to the things that made me happy & things that made me sad, tried new things, and was open to learning more about the world around me. I took the time to sit down with myself and dig deep about who I am and who I wanted to be. It took a lot of trial and error but I think I’m in a really good place right now. Building a strong sense of identity is key to being the most confident version of yourself. So to anyone reading this, if you’re struggling with your confidence or self esteem, I would say the quickest and easiest thing you could do is to focus on your physical appearance. Take a couple months to years working on that thing that you’re the most insecure about and watch your confidence soar. Everything else will fall into place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hey beautiful people, my name is Rachel Pierre and I am a Haitian American girl in my twenties trying to figure this life thing out and sharing my life online as I do that. I’m a registered nurse by profession and content creator by passion who’s a lover of all things beauty, fashion, travel, food and lifestyle. My social media platforms focus on all those things as well as highlighting self love, self care and authenticity while debunking societal beauty standard norms and embracing uniqueness. I also just love to put the girls on. I love sharing tips, advice, and motivation for women. Right now, I am focused on building a personal brand. One where I can help girls reach their career goals, their beauty goals by teaching them how to present as their best selves whether it be through hair or makeup, and their passions by ultimately putting myself out there online to show others if I can do it, you definitely can as well. Plus I’m doing all of this while being on a budget cause your girl is not wealthy YET. I want to be a light and spread positivity because there is so much darkness in the world right now. Some new things that I would love readers to know is that I will be starting back again on YouTube. It’s always been a dream of mine to be a YouTuber, I have a channel with a few videos but I definitely fell off. So be on the lookout for nursing content, makeup tutorials, vlogs and so much more. Be sure to follow me on all my social media platforms @raee.chel on Instagram and TikTok and Rachel Pierre (Raeechel) on YouTube.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things I believe that are most impactful on my journey to becoming a successful creator is staying authentic to myself, passion, and having a growth mindset. My best piece of advice for anyone trying to start their creator journey is to always remember their why. It’s so easy to get caught up with the trends and superficial aspect of social media but constantly reminding myself of my purpose in this keeps me grounded. I would also say create content on things you genuinely enjoy and can talk about endlessly. Your audience will see that come across the screen and connect deeper with you. My last tip, is always be willing to learn. I’m always looking to improve and get better and I think that’s pivotal not only in content creation but in life.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
My number one obstacle in content creation right now is consistency and getting rid of that selfish mindset of creating what I want to see as opposed to what my audience wants to see.
I work full time as a nurse and consider content creating a part time job and it’s definitely not easy. There are some days where I’m just exhausted from work and need a couple days to reset, which can be a huge hindrance to being an “influencer” because consistency is key. I’m trying to now focus on quality over quantity because realistically posting multiple times per day is not feasible for me.
I want to create content authentic to myself with my audience at the forefront of that. I am planning on curating content based off the questions my audience asks in the comments and have been asking for a while now. Repeating what’s shown to work through my statistics as well as getting feedback consistently from my audience.
