We recently connected with Rachel Shaw and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. My parents grew up in the 50s and 60s where it was a lot harder to obtain an education and be successful as an African-American. Both of my parents had successful careers and instilled in me that I could do and be anything. I also believe that God has put this drive in me and he guides my steps in everything I do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the Founder of Kiddzentials, a kid focused brand creating toy essentials that my little ones use each day. My background is in music. I was a music major in college with a focus on piano. I’ve spent the last 14 years in media across TV, radio and digital before joining Amazon. I knew I wanted to eventually start my own consulting business but I also wanted to have a business that would inspire my kids and eventually take over. This is what prompted me to start Kiddzentials. I’m in the process of launching my first product, a star shaped plush toy. I’m excited about this launch as my kids were my passion behind the business and have helped pick out the fabric, color, and features. The goal is to launch first on Amazon in Q1 2025 and then Shopify by the end of 2025.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
