Meet Rachel Soto

We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Soto recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

How have I overcome imposter syndrome? My answer is that: I haven’t! Imposter syndrome is a sense, either throughout our lives or within small pockets of it, that we’ve somehow tricked the algorith and are in places doing things that are above our paygrades. But what is life, if it isn’t a series of trying new things that we haven’t done before?

So my solution is this: approach new things knowing that you’re not going to immediatly feel like you should be doing them. Accept that job offer for the role you think you’re underqualified for. Workout at that gym where the professional athletes train. Wear that couture outfit to that fashion show. Sign up for that open mic on the mainstage. In my experience, once I’ve accepted that those imposter feelings are just part of leveling up and are going to be there no matter what – the fear subsides and I’m able to focus on the excitement of doing something new.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am the Founder and Program Director of WILD Wealth: Wealth & Investing Literacy Development. WILD Wealth is a program designed to help folks improve their financial literacy and become more comfortable with navigating their own wealth journey.

A core tenet of the program is the idea that: wealth should be personal. A wealthy life does not need to look the same for everyone, and the paths folks follow to obtain wealth can vary. Wealth for some may look like having enough money to buy a home, invest in other real estate, and being able to eat regularly at restaurants. But wealth for others may look like the ability to change locales frequently and work from anywhere – and/or it may involve how often they see family. Wealth happens when you have the monetary resources needed to live comfortably, and everyone should have the freedom to define what “comfort” means to them.

WILD Wealth supports participants in this journey through a one-year guided meeting series, which is centered on the group development of a cohort that learns and discusses these lessons together. More information can be found at: wildwealth.net

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

When starting any journey, we must start with “why?” Why is this what you want to do? Why is this where you want to travel to? Why is this what you want to accomplish?

Once you determine “why” you want that job, or that house, or to speak that language, or to accomplish that goal – ask yourself “who?” Who will be on this journey with you? Who are the experts you can research for inspiration and guidance? Who may be able to help you get started?

Then, ask “how?” This is where your goal shifts from an idea to a plan. How will you get started? What will your success metrics be and how will you accomplish them? If you ever reach a point and you’re not sure what to do, remind yourself of why you’re doing it in the first place and re-engage with folks who inspire you to keep going.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

My number one obstacle has been time! There seem to never be enough hours in the day to do all the things I’d like to do. Prioritization has been a big help with this, to help me determine what to do with my time when. It is still very much a work in progress for me though.
