We recently connected with Rachelle Carson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachelle, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from the daily challenges and triumphs of running my own skincare business.
One major source of resilience for me is the passion and love I have for creating and sharing high-quality skincare products with my customers. This deep connection to my products and the satisfaction of seeing happy customers motivates me to push through difficult times.
In the realm of small business challenges, I face hurdles such as managing inventory, marketing on a limited budget, and handling all aspects of production and distribution myself. These challenges have taught me the importance of being resourceful, adaptable, and persistent.
Despite the difficulties, the journey of running LILY + MIEL has been incredibly rewarding. Each obstacle I overcome strengthens my resilience and reinforces my determination to succeed in the competitive world of skincare products.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As the small skincare business owner of LILY + MIEL, my passion lies in helping people feel their best in their skin. I find it incredibly rewarding to hear the positive feedback from customers who have experienced improved skin and increased confidence through my products. What sets LILY + MIEL apart is our emphasis on using natural ingredients and sustainable packaging in crafting our skincare solutions.
Our brand is all about promoting skin health and boosting self-esteem through products that are not only effective but also environmentally conscious. I take pride in creating formulations that not only nourish the skin but also have a minimal impact on the planet.
At LILY + MIEL, we are constantly striving to innovate and improve. We are excited to share that we have new product launches on the horizon, which embody our commitment to quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out to me as particularly impactful. First, my personal experience with dry skin has driven me to gain in-depth knowledge about skincare products and ingredients that work best for me. This perspective has not only improved my skin but has also shaped my interests and decisions in what ingredients to choose as well as to avoid in formulating products.
My newfound interest in creativity has played a significant role in my journey. By tapping into my creative side, I have been able to design innovative products and market them effectively.
Continuous learning and adapting to a changing market has been paramount in my journey. Being open to new information, trends, and feedback has helped me to keep LILY + MIEL stay relevant. I have learned to embrace challenges, seek knowledge from various sources, and adapt my strategies to an ever-evolving skincare market.
For those early in their journey, my advice would be to embrace their unique experiences and challenges. For me, having a specific skin concern, I considered it an opportunity to delve deep into my issue and use it to fuel my passion. Develop a thirst for knowledge and experiment with different products or opportunities that interest you to find what works best for you. Let your creativity shine through and set you apart in your industry. Remember to stay open-minded, be willing to learn from both successes and failures, and continuously seek growth and improvement in all aspects of your journey.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
As a small skincare business owner, one particular challenge I am currently facing is the rapidly changing skincare market. Keeping up with new trends, ingredients, and consumer preferences can be demanding, especially when competing with larger brands that have more resources for research and development.
Standing out from the competition in a saturated market can be tough.
As a small business owner, wearing multiple hats and balancing various roles can be overwhelming. Learning how to juggle responsibilities effectively, from product development to marketing and customer service, is an ongoing learning process.
Overcoming these challenges requires resilience, adaptability, and a clear vision for the future of the business.
