Meet Radha Home

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Radha Home a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Radha , so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.

One of the most terrifying things for me has always been speaking in public. I remember being a little girl in class and whispering answers I knew to the boy sitting next to me so that I wouldn’t have everyone turn to look at me. I spent my life working to overcome this. I read poetry on stage at an open mic and acted in countless plays in my theatre years in high school and college.
Nothing could break me of my crippling stage fright.

When I first recognized that I was to become a teacher of the sacred wisdom of India, I felt so much excitement. It was, however, immediately followed by the dread that this would include speaking in front of others. How could I do that? Writing was no problem, and one-on-one teaching was also quite natural for me, but as soon as multiple people were gathered, I would freeze and fumble. I laughed about this in my yoga teacher training class on the first day. “I don’t even know why I’m here, I can’t speak in front of people.” My teacher looked at me and smiled. He told me he had the same fear and that it would come.

The time came where I had to do my first practice teaching session and I stood trembling at the front of the room, looking at all the expectant faces staring back at me. I started off, my voice shaky, repeating the exact words of the “script” I had memorized. Then I came to the part where I said, “I invite you to set a Sankalpa, an intention, for your practice.” The next words came through me as if I was sitting in the class as a participant. “My intention is to Let Go.” With a woosh I could feel it happen! A wave of relief washed over me as I saw the class with new eyes. They were there to learn, to sink into themselves deeper through a practice that had helped me so much. How could I not share? From there it was like Spirit was talking through me. My ego had totally left the building and it was just me as a conduit for the deep peace I was helping to impart to others.

This same practice is how I moved into my Vedic Astrology videos. I never do “takes”, I just let what is meant to come out flow, and trust that it is exactly what at least one person needs to hear. I also never watch it back later to “critique” my work from my ego mind. When I teach classes online, I can often feel overwhelm in the initial stages with the welcoming people in and such. I always begin with a meditative moment and mantra, so that I can drop into the pool of wisdom that is already moving through me. If I find myself getting lost, I take a moment and breathe, and then land myself with the last thing I spoke of. From there, I am able to flow freely and fluidly once again.

By recognizing it is not about me at all, and that I am showing up in service, I have found my voice and feel such incredible joy and peace in sharing it with others!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Jyotishi, a Vedic Astrologer, practicing within the Indian system established over 5,000 years ago. Having been raised with Western astrology, I had quite a background in understanding the planetary influences as they move through the stars when I first came across the Science of Light. As a yoga teacher in my third year of study, Jyotish came to me in an advanced teacher training bringing together Ayurveda and Yoga. I was immediately enchanted with their third sister science of Astrology. I began learning as much as I could on my own and eventually found my teacher, Sam *Sadasiva* Geppi, with whom I studied for three years intensively and continued to collaborate with after.

What was so different for me was how much the system made sense and integrated so beautifully with the other Vedas. The accuracy, elegance and mythology activated the light within me and allow me to share the same with my clients and students. I become so excited with each new person in front of me to show them their purpose, the timing of what is happening in their lives and the promise of the future if they take hold of their own destiny.

My favorite part of doing this work is helping people move out of the “fatalistic” quality so often associated with astrology and into the mindset of volition. We can each choose to elevate our experience in this world, no matter what we are given to work with and the Vedic Sister Sciences give such a clear roadmap on how to do that! I share myths and stories as a way to open people to the portal of consciousness that I can feel will bring them a reflection of their own truth and dharma.

To help people turn on this light within themselves, I offer free forecasts weekly, Moon-ly, and for major transits. I also have a member group where I break down these transits for each of the 12 signs, offering a personal weekly forecast. In my group I host live discussions where we talk about a specific topic, using member’s charts. Finally, I offer personal chart readings live on Zoom or by recording on my site; natal chart readings, relationships, astrocartography (locational astrology), event timing, mini-readings and more! I am always expanding and growing both in my practice and in my offerings, so stay in touch via my email list to stay in the know!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most important quality I had at the beginning of my journey was an open mind and heart. I was willing to see things differently than I had before and was open to the idea that I didn’t already have all the answers. With this I went far, as I was willing to follow my heart to meet the people, go to the places and study with the teachers that would move me forward in the direction I was ultimately meant to go.

The second most important quality I had was the courage and dedication to actually take the steps set out before me. I cannot tell you how many people I have met that have taken a yoga teacher training, or an astrology certification or any other number of classes and done nothing with what they studied. I learn on my feet, and the best way to learn is to share. So, I began to share my newfound wisdom with others. In the early stages, I just offered it by donation and then began to put some parameters around my offerings until I had clarity as to how I would model my business in alignment with my beliefs and values.

The third quality I embody is a willingness to roll with challenges and setbacks and to receive constructive criticism. The journey is certainly not a straight line forward and things come up, in business and frankly, in life. As a mother, a human living on an unsettled Earth and a solopreneur learning on my feet, I have to hold myself in patience and gratitude for the entire journey, not just the destination. There have been years of caring for a newborn, evacuations from lava flows and fires, not to mention the learning curve with technology, marketing, web design and all the other subjects I did not study that I have to somehow figure out and utilize!

I believe with an open heart and mind, courage and determination and a willingness to be adaptable to what comes up in any given moment anyone can and will succeed in the direction of their dreams!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I would absolutely love to collaborate with others from different fields, as I have mostly only worked with other Vedic Astrologers or people who practice other Vedic Arts and Sciences. One of the things I offer people in my readings and personal forecasts is advice on potential remedies. I often recommend people seek integrative therapies like EMDR, hypnosis, dream-work, somatic therapies, breathwork, as well as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and other herbal medicine for physical ailments. It would be so fun to do a workshop or class online that brought together the houses in Astrology (or reasons for needing remedy) with a hands-on experience with a practitioner!
