Meet Radley Fenimore

We recently connected with Radley Fenimore and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Radley, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Ever since I was a little kid, I have always loved music and found it very entertaining. Both of my parents are musicians, so I grew up in a very musical environment, and I also have fond memories of growing up listening to music with my family in the car, especially The Beatles and Rush with my dad and even Theatre shows like Wicked with my mom.

I started playing drums when I was five years old, and I instantly fell in love with it. I have never felt more satisfaction with any other activity than I have when playing music. Music also taught me self-discipline. I have never been averse to practicing, if anything, I really enjoy going over the same thing and improving it just a little bit with each countless repetition.

Music helps me find my purpose in life because it gives me something intrinsically valuable to do, something to strive toward, and something that can do to entertain others like it has always entertained me!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I write, record and perform music with some of my best friends! Performing has always been exciting to me, because of the high risk/high reward nature of doing something live for a bunch of people, but it’s also been really special to be able to share some of my favorite performances with my best friends.

Me, Stephen, and Alex have been friends since High School back in Macon, Georgia, but we started our band about three years ago and immediately focused on performing and releasing music. Back in March, we released our first EP on all streaming platforms called “Not Enough Time.” We always strive to improve with each release, and we really feel like our new single, “Too Good” is our best work yet.

It’s out everywhere, so check it out today!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Well, Im still very early in my journey, but looking back, I think my shining moments have been defined by self-confidence (which doesn’t always come naturally), hard work, and the ability to never give up on what I hope to achieve.

I can think of several values that I strive toward each day, but if I had to choose three right now:

– Patience
– Dedication
– Gratitude/Perspective

You have to have patience to endure frustrating moments and dedication to keep working towards your goals. Especially when it comes to music, it can be easy to just keep practicing what you know you’re good at, but in my opinion dedication is born when you the patience to suck at at first because it will ultimately make you better. Gratitude is a powerful way to shift your perspective when you’re unhappy with your progress. It helps to remember what’s going well in life when you need motivation to keep working hard.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

I really like Atomic Habits by James Clear. It helped me form a lot of my current mindset about hard work and investing in yourself. The book teaches the value of small but consistent improvements across long periods of time, resulting in a dramatic shift in where you end up versus where you started. It also helped me feel a lot less overwhelmed in life. The main idea is don’t try and do it all at once. Take your goals one moment at a time, and strive for small 1% improvements every day. I highly recommend giving it a read.
