Meet Raelyn Docampo

We were lucky to catch up with Raelyn Docampo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Raelyn, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Since I was younger, I was always taught to put in the work and effort for myself and for others in order to succeed. Not just for me, but to succeed as a society in general. Understanding the value of work ethic has always been a big part of my personal and professional life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a photographer with my own business that focuses on capturing dancers, particularly circus arts, to showcase their artistry and ability. I have a deep connection with that specific genre because I have been recreationally a part of that world for several years and am also an instructor at a local studio. For me, while yes we all want to run away and join the circus :’), it’s particularly impactful to see people’s journeys even on a recreational level and it is something that I enjoy capturing. I also am a photographer with another incredible local company, Lovely in Lace, that captures the beauty of women in a boudoir setting. In general, it is always important for me whether it’s through photography or instructing, that my client feels comfortable, safe, and welcomed, and gets the opportunity to see how incredible they are!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
This is a tough question, because I feel like I am still and will always be learning and that my journey is really just beginning. I have had many ups and downs in my photography path, and for me, it has been challenging to persevere, but I am happy that I have. Motivation, drive, and the willingness to continuously grow and learn, are always very important!

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Social Media (maybe in combination with imposter syndrome). For me, Social Media can be very overwhelming and self promotion a BIG challenge, but it is SUCH an important part of marketing and getting yourself out there now adays. I tend to feel very discouraged posting and putting my work out onto the internet especially with so many other talented and amazing creatives. Not that there isn’t enough to go around, but it still tends to put me in a negative headspace. The upkeep with Social Media and keeping up with the trends exhausts me and I would rather not have to deal with it. But I do understand that it is a major part of life now and a huge part of promoting your business and yourself. I am trying to post more often to be able to get my brand out there.
