We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rafael Dante. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rafael below.
Rafael, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
When it comes to work, I don’t let myself get too much attached to small things. I think it’s better to be practical and solve problems instead of suffering and complaining. So if something goes wrong, I try to understand why that happened and what I can learn from it. For example, if I create a beautiful image the client doesn’t approve, it’s fine. Maybe i spent some good hours making something cool but it’s just not right for this occasion. So let’s move forward and make it right on the second round.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a multi-talented professional with almost 20 years of experience working on a huge range of award-winning creative projects. Most of my career has been dedicated to the advertising and entertainment industry working for agencies and clients around the globe. I have a wide range of skills that include hand drawings, creative concepts, graphic and digital design, 3D production and more.
As an artist, I did some cool work for Nike, Harry Potter and Marvel. I’m super active on my Instagram where I post drawings and tips daily. I really believe everyone can learn how to draw , if dedicate some time to it.
I was born and raised in Sao Paulo Brazil, lived in Amsterdam and moved to California 10 year ago. Love comics, movies and all that nerd stuff.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I started drawing when I was 8, copying illustrations from books. at school. I always loved spending time drawing. I learned the foundations of classic drawing when I was young and that is crucial. When I started studying design I felt easier to understand a lot of concepts and even the theories were easier to digest and absorb. So, don’t ignore those foundations. Go and start from the beginning without fear or rush.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
There are two answers to this. A – The client who makes a good brief and it’s clear with feedback.
B- The one who pays well and on time. 😆
