We were lucky to catch up with Rafael Limon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rafael, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose emerged from my own financial struggles and the desire to create a life free from financial stress. At one point, I was burdened with debt, living paycheck-to-paycheck, and it became clear that financial peace was not just about making money—it was about managing and planning well. Through learning and eventually becoming a Ramsey Solutions Certified Financial Coach, I saw that the same peace I found could benefit others, especially in the Hispanic community, where financial education isn’t always accessible. My purpose now is to provide families, single parents, and young people with the financial tools to live a fuller life without the weight of debt. I feel fulfilled seeing others take control of their finances and build a life where they can truly focus on what matters most.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a financial coach, guiding people through the process of budgeting, eliminating debt, and building a strong financial foundation. My mission is to break down barriers, helping individuals and families find financial peace and build the life they envision. The most rewarding part of what I do is seen individuals and families achieve the financial stability that lets them pursue their dreams and enjoy more of what life has to offer without financial stress.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as the most impactful: resilience, empathy, and clarity in communication.
• Resilience: I encountered a lot of setbacks, especially in the early days of my financial journey. The ability to push through those challenges made me stronger and showed me that financial struggles can be overcome with persistence.
• Empathy: My experiences taught me to understand and relate to the financial struggles of others, and I can approach my clients without judgment. This allows me to create a safe space for people to open up about their financial situations.
• Clear Communication: In Hispanic culture, money is often a sensitive and complex topic, making open discussions about budgeting, debt, and investments challenging. Coming from this background, I know that effective communication is essential to bridge that gap. Breaking down financial concepts in a way that’s clear, relatable, and actionable is key to making progress in our community.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to remain curious and keep learning. Build empathy by genuinely listening to others’ stories and develop the ability to explain financial concepts simply and clearly. This approach not only empowers clients to take control of their finances but also helps build trust—an invaluable asset for any financial coach.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I’m incredibly grateful for my wife, Yesenia Moreno, has also been invaluable on this journey. Her constant support, guidance, and encouragement have given me the strength and clarity to pursue my vision, especially during challenging times. Together, she and I share a mission to bring financial education to our community, and I couldn’t do this without her unwavering partnership. For the mentors in my life, Dave Ramsey, Andres Gutierrez, and Rodolfo Hernandez whose teachings have been instrumental in shaping my financial philosophy and coaching style.
Having people around me who believed in my vision and offered guidance was invaluable. For anyone seeking to develop their own skills, my recommendation is to find mentors or a community that supports you—people who are not only skilled in your field but who are also willing to push you forward and help you grow.
