Rafael, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I was born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Home to the Oglala Lakota Nation. I am an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe. My nation has and is surviving 500 years of colonization. Resilience lives in my DNA and was passed down by the matriarchs of my family.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I create all types of content. It ranges from gym and fitness progress to funny educational skits on what it’s like to be Native American. I love to act and create characters that people relate to. I fell in love with fitness a few years ago after losing my step father to cancer. It saved me and showed me what determination and dedication can do for my health. A lot of my family members are stuck in unhealthy cycles and I want to take care of myself and re-write my story to show that we can thrive.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

For me three qualities that help me continue on my journey are confidence, kindness, and creativity, I grew up with people asking me why I looked a certain way or people telling me I couldn’t do something because of their own projections of me. It takes a lot of confidence and strength to stand up in a room by yourself and believe in yourself but it’s worth it. I also think kindness is so important and realizing that we are stronger together as humans. Kindness is humanity and is what will bring us together. Everyone person is going through their own journey and have had hardships of their own. Sometimes they need to be taught how to live in softness and you can be that mentor. Provide space for others to change and grow. I also think being creative has helped me on my journey. If something isn’t working out I remind myself that there is always another way.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I love collaboration. I think community is what makes us stronger. I’m always looking for more storytellers to connect with or even fitness influencers to partner with. I love learning from others and supporting others journeys as well. We are stronger together.
