We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raghav Gupta. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raghav below.
Hi Raghav, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my father. He has always been a hard-working man, and even as he nears retirement, his dedication remains unwavering. Growing up, I learned from him that while we can’t always control how smart we are, we can always control how hard we work. He taught me that hard work often compensates for any gaps in skills, and that’s a lesson I’ve carried with me throughout my career. His example has been a guiding force in my journey, showing me the value of perseverance and dedication in everything I do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the founder and CEO of Nymble, a consumer robotics company revolutionizing how we experience cooking at home, by building cooking robots for home. My journey into the food industry began with a deep passion for food that I’ve carried with me since childhood. Growing up, I was equally fascinated by math and physics as I was with the idea of becoming a chef. My father ran a grocery store, and I spent countless hours there, witnessing the emotions people attached to freshly cooked meals. Conversations about food grains and produce were a constant at our dinner table, shaping my early aspirations.
The inspiration to start Nymble came from my desire to merge this lifelong love for food with a larger societal impact. I grew up in a culture where love was expressed through home-cooked meals, often at the expense of personal and professional aspirations, especially for women. I wanted to create a solution that would allow people to continue enjoying the comfort and love of home-cooked meals without sacrificing their time or career ambitions. This led to the creation of Nymble, where we aim to make the joy of cooking accessible to everyone, without the time and effort it traditionally demands.
Our cooking robot is designed to be a private chef in every home, enabling families to share meals and create memories with utmost love and ease. Nymble is more than just a product; it’s a blend of cutting-edge technology and the emotional significance of food, rooted in the belief that food is love.
We’re currently focused on the U.S. market, with plans to expand to Canada, the EU, and the UK as we grow. Our immediate goal is to help a million people enjoy freshly cooked meals every day, and I’m excited about the journey ahead as we work towards making Nymble a household name.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have been particularly impactful in my journey: resilience, alignment, and a focus on the collective good. Building something meaningful, especially in a space as challenging as consumer robotics, requires an unwavering commitment to your vision. There will be countless obstacles along the way, and the ability to stay patient and keep pushing forward is crucial. Resilience has been essential for me, allowing me to see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. For those early in their journey, embracing this mindset can make all the difference. Every setback is a step closer to success if you’re willing to keep moving forward.
Another key aspect of my journey has been the importance of alignment. The success of any organization depends on how well its members are aligned towards a common goal. At Nymble, I’ve learned that when everyone is focused and moving in the same direction, the impact is exponentially greater. For aspiring entrepreneurs, ensuring that your team shares your vision and is fully aligned with your goals is essential. Clear communication and a shared purpose are investments that pay off in the long run, enabling your organization to achieve far more together than any individual could alone.
Finally, focusing on the collective good has been a guiding principle throughout my journey. Success is not just about individual achievements; it’s about helping those around you succeed. By prioritizing the success of my team, customers, and partners, I’ve found that our collective achievements have far exceeded what I could have accomplished on my own. For those starting out, I’d advise always keeping the bigger picture in mind—when you lift others up, you rise with them. These qualities—resilience, alignment, and a focus on the collective good—aren’t just skills; they’re mindsets that can transform challenges into stepping stones for success.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I focus on resilience and perspective. I remind myself of the bigger picture and the purpose behind what I’m doing. Stepping back helps me regain clarity and see how each challenge fits into the larger vision. I also reflect on a quote from the Bhagavad Gita: “Karmanye vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshu kadachana”—focus on your duties without worrying about the outcomes. This keeps me grounded, reminding me that I can control my actions, not the results.
Having a strong support system is also crucial. Talking things through with a co-founder, mentor, or friend often brings new perspectives. For anyone feeling overwhelmed, my advice is to step back, remember your purpose, and focus on what you can control. Overwhelm is part of any significant journey, but with the right mindset and support, it’s manageable.
