Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raina Mirchandani & Randy Sillart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raina Mirchandani & Randy Sillart, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from a combination of personal discipline, strong values, and past experiences.
I’ve always believed in putting in consistent effort and doing my best, whether it’s in professional or personal tasks.
Growing up, I was taught the importance of responsibility, reliability, and dedication. I’m naturally motivated by a desire to learn and grow, which keeps me focused on achieving goals and overcoming challenges.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Raina’s culinary journey began in the warm embrace of her grandmother’s kitchen, where the rich aromas of home-cooked meals sparked a lifelong passion for cooking. From learning the secrets of traditional recipes passed down through generations, she was determined to hone her craft, which led her to culinary school. With ambition and creativity, Raina soon launched her own business, blending her love for culture with the art of cooking.
Now, alongside her partner Randy, whose deep connection to Indian culture influences his culinary style, Raina teaches cooking classes at “Did You Kadho”. Together, they offer a unique experience where food, music, and culture collide, inspiring their students to explore the art of cooking through a rich, sensory lens.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience: The road to where I am now wasn’t always smooth. There were challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt. What kept me going was my ability to push through those tough times and learn from them. My advice for those starting out is to embrace failure as part of the process. Every setback is an opportunity to improve and evolve.
Creativity: Cooking, like any form of art, thrives on creativity. It’s about pushing boundaries and finding new ways to express yourself through food. I encourage those just starting to experiment with different ingredients, flavors, and cooking techniques. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—each mistake teaches you something new.
Cultural Knowledge: Understanding the history, origins, and stories behind the food you create is vital. It adds depth to your dishes and helps you connect with the people you cook for. For anyone just beginning, I’d suggest exploring different cultures through their food and traditions. It broadens your perspective and opens up endless possibilities for inspiration.
To develop these qualities, start by staying curious and never stop learning. Seek mentors, keep experimenting, and most importantly, stay true to your passion.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Divorce can be emotionally and mentally challenging, often involving feelings of loss, sadness, and uncertainty. The process of navigating legal and financial complexities can add to the strain. Overcoming it requires resilience, self-reflection, and support from friends, family, or professionals. Healing takes time, but with focus on self-care, personal growth, and rebuilding one’s identity, individuals can emerge stronger, finding new opportunities for happiness and fulfillment.
