We were lucky to catch up with Ramin Guseinov recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ramin, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
That is the battle that never ends for me. And I’m still learning how to overcome the blocks more effectively. But most of time I just can push through it. If I feel uninspired I just start experimenting and do random stuff. It doesn’t have to be great or even good but I have to start. Usually just “throwing stuff at the wall” gets me involved in the process and in that process I can usually find inspiration. But some days it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s just not going to work. So on the days like these I just have to take a step away from making music and do something completely different. For instance make a cover art, or mix a track for a client. And inspiration always comes back. Just a matter of time.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a 35 year old music producer, originally from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. My love for hip-hop music drove me to dedicating all of my time to making it myself. I produce hip-hop beats with old school or nostalgic feel of 90’s/2000’s (kind of music that I grew up on). I offer production, mixing and mastering services, and cover art graphic design. Full package to help an artist fulfill their vision of their song or an album. I’m proud of quality and customer service that I’m able to provide to anyone that I work with. My main goal is to create meaningful music that will stand the test of time. Music has got to make you feel something. If I create a track but feel nothing when I hear it I just don’t put it out at all.
I also put out instrumentals and albums under the name of ‘raminbeatz’ for people to listen and enjoy.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say that the most helpful skill for me was the ability to learn. I knew nothing about making music prior to when I started my journey 5 years ago. So I think that I achieved decent results pretty quickly. And I only managed to do that because I was good at finding answers to my questions. We live in a crazy time when we have all the answers at our fingertips. You just have to know what to ask. So my main advice for the people who are starting anything really, not just music, is start the process first. And whenever you want to do something specific but don’t know how, just look it up on YouTube or google. Most likely you’ll find the answer within minutes. Apply the new knowledge and just repeat the process over and over again. You’ll 100% get better very quickly.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
All my collaborations start naturally. I’m not actively looking for people to collaborate with. It always happens when we already have some sort of relationship or history together. I only work with people who are serious about their craft and put a lot into it. And of course it has to make sense sonically. People who want to collaborate with me can always contact me on Instagram (@raminbeatz). I will always reply, but as I said, it has got to make sense.
