Meet Ramiro Torres

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ramiro Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ramiro below.

Ramiro , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Life experiences, depending on the stage of life I was in. When I was younger it came from trying to prove that someone else was wrong, or even to prove someone else right. As I got older I realized that it was more about proving myself to myself. Developing a sense of Purpose, or multiple purposes, definitely makes it easier to be resilient when things are tough. I have a sense of Purpose in all aspects of my life: Family, marriage, career, health, etc, so it’s easier to push through when needed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ host a morning show in Boston on HOT 96-9. I’ve been on the radio for almost 30 years and love it just as much now as the day I started. I’m also the ring announcer for Combat FC, an MMA promotion that airs on UFC FightPass. I’ve hosted all types of events, shows on TV and have done voiceover work. Everything I’ve done are things I’m passionate about or passionate about learning. Eventually I’ll start a podcast where I talk with people about their passion. I love hearing about everyone’s unique journeys.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The qualities that have helped me the most were passion, a love of learning and discipline.

As far as advice for someone starting out: Be Passionate about what you do. That enables you to do the little things it requires to improve. Being curious and having a growth mindset will help for the times you fail, which WILL happen. And discipline is just something that you need in life, period. It’s easy to do the hard things when you feel like it. But it’s what you do daily that will determine your life.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
For me it was my first, and current, program director, Cadillac Jack McCartney. Growing up I wasn’t big into playing sports and didn’t take school seriously, so I never really had a mentor figure in my life. I love my parents, and they taught me the value of hard work. But they weren’t exactly encouraging. But when I got into radio and met Cadillac, that all changed. He was the first person that helped me, encouraged me and gave me direction.
He’s still a mentor to this day.
