We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ramon Lyons a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ramon, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I believe my optimism stems from my upbringing and the daily affirmations I received growing up. This equipped with a unique perspective of the world which gave me the ability to come into situations with humility and gratitude. I’ve always been someone who looks at the positive sides of things because I know that I’m strong enough to achieve whatever I set my mind to. It’s just a matter of time and patience.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an all around creative who loves to tell stories in whatever medium interests me at the time. Currently, I’m earning my masters degree in Film and Television production at the University of Southern California where I’m focusing on new media such as Virtual Production and AI to rethink ways of practical filmmaking and expanded animation.
My thesis film is a project I’m most excited about that is premiering Spring 2025. The best way I can describe is that it’s a fantasy period drama with spiritual undertones that centers around a female protagonist.
In my spare time, I like to write songs and serve as an executive producer on music projects. I just released my first EP titled “Homecoming” which is the first of many more projects to come in the near future.
Lastly, but certainly not the least, I run the CANVAS* media company where we provide a platform for creatives to showcase their work and host mixers in the LA area for people to network and connect.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are: adaptability, humility, and perseverance. All three of these characteristics I’ve found to be the most beneficial to me and my career as they all require you to have an objective view of on oneself and the world around them. Being adaptable allowed me to be comfortable in the ever changing environment of being a creative and having the confidence to execute any curveball plan thrown my way. This leads to my next point of perseverance. When the days seem longer and the dark clouds seem to follow you more, having the ability to push through and chase the belief of light at the end of the tunnel is key for being successful in any field. And lastly, the one that I believe to be the most important skill to have is humility. This is probably the single biggest reason why I am where I am today. Being able to remove your ego, lead with love, and try to remove yourself from disagreements by trying to understand the opposing point of view has granted me the space of living without fear because the world that I’ve built around me is surrounded by love. And that attracts people who are looking to help you in any way they can. No fortune could match the doors that opened for me, doors I believe were unlocked by the simple keys of humility and love I offered to others before they found their way back to me.
