We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ramone Palmore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ramone, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
My self-discipline comes from my Grandparents. Growing up, my family went to church every Sunday. Spending time in church, I learned to follow the commandments and apply them to my everyday life. Following the commandments helps me stay disciplined in all my decisions.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a stage and film actor. My brother and I developed an international film company, Global Millennium Pictures. I started acting with director Beth Harper at the Portland’s Actor’s Conservatory. I studied at the Artists Repertory Theatre with meisner instructor Chris Harder. Then I was casted in “A Streetcar Named Desire” at the SecondStory Repertory Theatre with Director Jane Ryan. I produced and played John Pearson in an independent short film, “Saving District”, about school shootings in America. I’m currently working on two films. “The Edge of the Horizon” ( Director Henry Lipatov) and “Fatal”(based on the fentanyl crisis in America). Both films are scheduled to be released later this year.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important qualities for me as an actor are, first getting the education on character building by learning the background of the character. (The before, the now, and the after). Second would be to really learn how to listen with your heart. It really helped me as a actor and in life, working with my acting teachers Beth Harper and Chris Harder. It really changed my journey as an actor. Studying Sanford Meisner really was a game changer for me as well. Learning how to really listen, opened my mind to being vulnerable and to listen with all of my body. The third would be, always be off book (know your lines). Every actor should study and understand what the current crisis in the world are, go to live plays and do monologues.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I pray when I wake up. I pray in the middle of my day and I pray before I go to bed. I don’t only pray for myself but I pray for others. Prayer changes everything so when I get overwhelmed, I give it to God, he is my strength.
