We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Randalyn Lauren a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Randalyn , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I would have to say that my generosity comes from my grandmother. She is always going above and beyond to help others. Ever since I can remember she has always been the perfect example of someone that is unselfish when it comes to giving time and gifts. Most recently I will never forget the energy and the time that my grandmother gave when she was helping one of her friend’s that was diagnosed with alzheimer’s. She would run errands, attend appointments with her, and keep her company. Upon her passing her daughter and son expressed how much they appreciated her generosity during such a difficult time. She continues to help older church members that are unable to leave their house by running errands throughout the week. My grandmother turned 80 years old back in April and she has exemplified generosity throughout her entire life, and I only hope that I can live up to her sweet and generous soul.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Randalyn Lauren. I am the owner of Florida Girl Cosmetics. My cosmetics line is dedicated to the wonderful city of Florida. I sell everything from lashes, lipglosses, lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, lip liners, and more. I have an ecommerace and I currently have a cosmetic vending machine located in Tallahassee, FL in Governor’s Square Mall. My entire cosmetic line is vegan, hypoallergenic and animal cruelty free. The cosmetics vending machine location only sales lashes, lipglosses, eyeliner, and lash applicators. Once a month, I have a pop up next to the vending machine selling the entire collection. Im looking forward to our annual holiday shoot and launching our holiday collection!
I believe that certain qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge are particularly impactful upon my journey of building and running a business. While there are many factors that contribute: Resilience and Persistence: Starting your own business can often be a challenging and uncertain path. Facing setbacks, failures, and obstacles is inevitable. However, having the ability to bounce back from disappointments, staying motivated in the face of adversity, and persistently working toward your goals is very important. Resilience helps in order to maintain focus and determination, even when the road gets tough. Innovation and Creativity: It is important to find unique solutions to problems, create new products or services, and stand out in competitive markets. Having a strong sense of innovation and creativity allows you to identify opportunities that others might overlook, create novel business models, and continuously adapt to changing market trends. Business Acumen: Understanding fundamental business principles is essential for entrepreneurs to make informed decisions and manage their ventures effectively. This includes knowledge of areas such as finance, marketing, operations, and strategy. Entrepreneurs need to have a clear understanding of how to manage budgets, analyze financial statements, market their products or services, and develop growth strategies. While these qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge are beneficial, it’s important to recognize that any journey requires a diverse skill set. Collaboration, networking, leadership, adaptability, and customer focus are just a few additional attributes that can greatly contribute to an entrepreneurship. Additionally, staying open to continuous learning, seeking mentors and advice, and being adaptable to changing circumstances are also key aspects of the entrepreneurial journey.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My father has been extremely helpful in helping me to overcome challenges and providing me with the knowledge to be successful. My father has a successful business real estate company, so I have always looked up to him and I always reach out to him for advise when I am uncertain on how to navigate thru any obstacles. He always has the best solutions, often times he has been in a similar situation as me, so I definitely enjoy hearing those stories and how it worked out for him.
