We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rania Stone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rania, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
There have been many times when I’ve felt like the only one in the room who stood out. To do my job effectively without letting that lead to bitterness, I focus on helping the people around me as much as I can. Everyone has their own unique talents. In a business environment, I’ve learned to highlight mine, but if you placed me in a dance or art school, I’d likely be the worst student in the room.
It’s not just about skills—it’s also about character. I have strong willpower and determination to achieve my goals, but I recognize that not everyone operates the same way. Some people need guidance and encouragement, while others prefer to be left alone to find their own path.
What keeps me grounded is doing the best I can, helping where I can, and understanding that this approach is enough. Success isn’t just about fitting in; it’s about showing up, lifting others, and staying true to yourself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I wear two hats that reflect my passions: I’m a thriller writer and a retreat coordinator at Imagine Greece Retreats.
Here’s the revised version with the changes you requested:
I love crafting stories that delve into the cause and effect of my characters’ behavior. Whether they’re struggling with relationships or grappling with their mental state, I’m fascinated by how their experiences shape who they become. My writing explores the complexities of human nature, questioning whether people are born “bad” or if life’s challenges lead them down that path. I aim to create characters whose journeys resonate with readers, leaving them thinking long after they’ve finished the story.
On the other hand, my work as a retreat coordinator combines my love for hospitality, my Greek roots, and my passion for creating unforgettable experiences. Imagine Greece Retreats offers writing, yoga, and reading retreats in stunning locations across Greece, with a special focus on the beautiful island of Amorgos. What makes these retreats special is the combination of creativity, wellness, and authentic Greek hospitality. Guests leave feeling inspired, refreshed, and deeply connected—not just to their craft or practice, but also to the magical energy of Greece.
We have an exciting lineup of retreats for 2025:
Yoga Retreat with Pam Rader: April 4–10 at the luxurious Aegialis Hotel in Amorgos.
Writing Masterclass with Jonas Saul: May 12–18 at Lakki Village in Amorgos.
Reading Retreat with Robyn Harding, Liz Nugent, and others: June 9–15 at Lakki Village in Amorgos.
Reading Retreat with J.D. Barker, Clare Mackintosh, and others: June 23–29 at Lakki Village in Amorgos.
Writing Retreat in Tolo, Greece: September 20–27, combining inspiration with the charm of the Peloponnese.
These retreats cater to creatives, yogis, and book lovers, offering them a chance to learn, unwind, and connect with like-minded people in breathtaking surroundings. Whether it’s through the pages of a book or the stunning landscapes of Greece, my goal is to create meaningful experiences that inspire and captivate people.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: strong willpower to make a difference, a desire to learn, and creativity.
Strong willpower to make a difference: I’m driven by a deep desire to improve not only the business but also the lives of the people around me. This determination pushes me to tackle challenges head-on and find solutions that truly matter. My advice? Don’t wait for the perfect circumstances—just do it.
A desire to learn: I believe that knowledge is power, and I strive to learn as much as I can so I’m not dependent on anyone else to move forward. From taking seminars in the tourism industry to keeping up with the latest in social media, I continuously seek ways to grow and adapt. My advice? You can only truly learn if you understand that you know nothing compared to the best in your field. Stay humble, stay curious, and always aim higher.
Creativity: I love coming up with fresh ideas and putting them into action. Creativity allows me to think outside the box, find unique solutions, and stand out from the rest. My advice? Embrace your creative side and don’t be afraid to try something new, even if it feels risky. Innovation often starts with bold ideas.
These qualities have shaped my journey, and for anyone early in theirs, I encourage cultivating them. With determination, a hunger for knowledge, and a creative mindset, you can achieve incredible things.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m always open to collaborating with passionate, like-minded individuals! At Imagine Greece Retreats, I’m particularly interested in partnering with retreat leaders, yoga instructors, authors, and creatives who want to host transformative experiences in Greece. Whether you’re looking to lead a writing, yoga, or reading retreat—or have another unique idea—I’d love to help you bring your vision to life.
I’m also looking for like-minded people who are passionate about sharing our retreats with the world, highlighting how essential they are for wellness and self-discovery journeys. Together, we can inspire others to take time for themselves, embrace new experiences, and unlock their full potential.
